theRuler:
as little as possible usually
try to clean and repaint stuff

my "holy grail" bike has cost me about 150 quid all in, plus hours and weeks of stripping cleaning bleaching painting and sticker art

dordymush:
i think most of mine have been around the £600 to £800 mark.

i would call all my builds middle. my dearest was my first and looking back i could have built it for less if i was more patient with buying. i'd say i average about $1000 australian for each and i now have 12. postage cost probably runs to about 33% of that figure which is why i try and buy in bulk from vert, skate, rude, rini etc.
i like ruler's method (i'm doing a 1987 haro with this method) but living where i do parts are rare which means buying off ebay or vendors is the only way of scourcing parts. that's why i try and go for NOS or good condition to start with. if i'm paying quite a bit for postage i may as well get the nicest bits i can to start with.
i don't go for high end like hutch, profile etc due to my collection being a representative of what i would have been able to have when i was in my teens.
the collection so far includes:
1983 redline proline2
1979 redline mx2
1983 redline 600a
1990 redline (my son's rider)
2005 redline cruiser
1981 diamondback medium pro
1987 haro fsx
mid 90's mongoose freestyle
1978 candy blue team mongoose
1979 mongoose motomag (customised)
1985 GT pro
1993 robinson XL (this will be my rider)

it will stop soon........................maybe  :LolLolLolLol:
