brass monkey!:
can anyone enlighten me............................... :)

How many different size stem shafts are there ?

I have a Gold Sugino Stem, that I was going to stick on my Ripper, but it don't fit the LG Forks !?! However I tried my Tuf Neck and it fits fine, the Tufneck shaft is narrower than the Sugino,.......are there two sizes ? 7/8th's and 13/16th's ???

Please  help....., am I losing the plot ?  :-[

There are definately two sizes, but i've only just found this out.

I sold an SR stem on the bay and I had a question from a buyer asking if it was the skinnier size, sure enough it was, but it was marked in mm rather than inches.

There are different size Stem shafts I had a Tuf Neck that was the narrower 13/16 and had to use a shim on it. Had an early Gold Suntour Stem that the shaft was too fat to fit my Kuwahara Forks aswell.

SaMAlex:
There are 2 main shafted stem sizes.

BMX (USA)          21.1mm
"MTB" (Euro?)    22.2mm

Most shafted BMX stems are 21.1mm but some BMX style stems are/were avalable in 22.2 (ie Sugino and SR).

Hope that helps.
