Import duty £105.75....... ???? HELP ????
stidds:
Dan, I had the same problem a while ago and looked into the charges, this is how it should be calculated:
Package total: £237.00
Import Duty: 3.5% = £8.30
Sub Total = £245.30
VAT on Sub Total = £42.93
Royal Handlng Fee = £8.00
Import Duty + VAT + Handling Fee
Total owed to Customs = £59.23
You have 2 options:
1) Take all my payment details etc with you to the PO find out why the amount is so high (probably badly labelled at source and value hard to read) and correct the amount and then get the PO to re-sort the item. It will take a couple of days to get to you again due to having to go back into the system.
2) Pay the charge and then fill out a claim form (which you can get from HM Customs and Excise) and send it back with all your payment details and they will re-fund the amount (although it can take months).
I urge you to call HM Customs and Excise though, they are incredibly helpful and cannot do enough for you (not joking).
When I did this I received the item back to me within 5 days with the correct amount payable.

Well I've payed the money and I've open up the package:
I have to say I am stoked with the contents, but I will try and claim back some of the VAT.... if I can.
Thanks for your advice, i'll give them a call in the morning :daumenhoch:

Good stuff Sean, I was looking for something like this for a mate who's been caught like this on some mtb parts. This info should really be posted in a FAQ type section as it's always asked and is so useful to know :daumenhoch:
