How do I get rid of that annoying white stuff!

Just got a pair of NOS Comp ST's which are covered in 'white' stuff...anybody know the best way to get rid of it?

Not sure...it seems to be some sort of coating...rubbing does take it off, but it's getting into the grooves to remove it...tried a toothbrush...taking ages! Ther must be an easier way!  ???

just use some back to black tyre shine available from your local pound shop

The rubber is perfect, supple and jet-black...it's just this white protective coating which needs to go...any ideas?
