OLD SCHOOL OR NEW SCHOOL .

Longun:
I think that some people get the impression that NS bikes look ugly from the fact that a lot of the ones they'll see will be black/grey/unpainted, destickered and often looking a bit tatty whereas the OS ones they're seeing are the lovingly restored and polished ones on here combined with their age clouded memories. Thing is the NS bikes are still being ridden (hard in many cases) and riders seem more concerned with how their tricks look than how their bikes are. We seem to forget that for all the nice shiney bikes we saw bitd there were many more that were a bit run down/patched together etc etc (hell I know funds meant that several of mine were). If you wanted to build an NS bike just to look good I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult, hopefully my new one will stand as an example of this, but if I could trade it's looks for the ability to go big and pull off some stylish airs, I think I would.
As to the quality of NS bikes compared to OS, I'm not sure there is a comparison. OK, there were some nicely built OS bikes (JMC, TAs etc) but there was also a lot of crap (Burners, Halfords Turbos, Iron Horse). Technology has given us improved materials and heat treating, experience has refined geometry and given us things such as dropouts that aren't the thickness of a coke can. I'm not sure I could see an OS frame surviving a lot of what is pulled or attempted on NS bikes.
So while I'll still race an OS bike and I will build my 82-83 GT Nora cup, still be pleased to see some nice OS machines being ridden, most of my riding now will be on a NS bike - it'll just be a pretty one.

then another raleigh dealer told me they had seen the new tuff burner and it wasn't as good as a original,

Now that would be some feat. I dont think its posible to make a new bike WORSE than the first burners  :LolLolLolLol:

i like new school best.

If you look at the average new school bike, then they won't look as good as they will have been thrashed.
The old school bikes you look at now are all built to preceison and look immaculate.
The old school frames had a lot more individuality. You can look at an old school pic and almost instantly tell what frame is being used.

However I love the look of Sean's Proper. I think it looks as good as most old school bikes. It is probably one of the best looking new school bikes I've seen.  Jim Wise also had a really nice looking new school.
