Diamond back Harry Leary Turbo COMPLETED!!!!!!!!!!!
munners:
I bought this bike off of ebay at xmas 2007. The bike was originally Orangezippys and then Danny Silverstreaks. After putting it up on here and adding it in the museum it became apparent that the bike had numerous parts that were incorrect. I was gutted as i was under the impression it was 100% all original spec.
If you have ever tried to build a HLT you will obviously know that sourcing the parts is extremely difficult. I decided that i would give it a go as there were alot of parts i needed. :'( It cost me a small fortune and alot of badgering to prize parts from people. It was also important that all the parts were also used as i decided that the bike still had to be a survivor.
It started with the seat clamp which Clive Gosling actually gave to me free!! Thanks mate. :daumenhoch:
Then i needed the correct chain ring which i got off ebay. When i fitted it i ended up stripping the crankset. This was my worst nightmare as i realised that the cranks were actually badly painted black and also the incorrect spindle had been used. :uglystupid2: Even the bloody crank caps were Specialized ones not the Turo ones. Me being me knew i had now needed to get a complete set. I sourced a whole complete HLT crankset from ebay US. HOW LUCKY!!!
Then came the pedals. IMPOSSIBLE! US Ebay came to the rescue again although the spindles were 1/2" and i needed 9/16". Another pain in the ass! Got them though. >:D
I then found that the wheels had been respoked at some stage so i had to fit black Asahi nipples and i ended up trueing the wheels.
The hardest part were the tyres. IRC Diamondback. I found someone with a NOS set but the price was ridiculous. I couldnt put a set of NOS on a survivor. I placed an ad on BMXMUSEUM and found a guy who had what i needed in Australia. Perfect.
The brake cables were black and i needed clear DC's. I also noticed that the 1st Gen HLT used chrome DC 890's and Chrome DC prebent levers. By the look of it mine were polished alloy. These were a fooker too to get.
After all the hard work and numerous phonecalls to Mark - (SPARKY on here who withoutdoubt is the DB King)...... here she is.....
Total original spec apart from the chain.
