dave, i always start on a lower grade and work up to 1200
start on say a 600 grit, 800, 1000, 1200.
always use em wet dordy, it stops the paper clogging up to quick, and the secret ingredient i always use is a drop of fairy liquid in the water, dave you will be impressed with the results, i can garantee most of the polished items shown here are much, much better in the flesh, pictures never capture the depth of shine properly.
take your time, its not easy work, just a bit labourious......
