tarmac berms

priv:
having seen so many riders fall on the berms{ouchio} when and why were tarmac berms used?

JT Smooth:
one good reason for them is prob dont have to pepair them  :-\

Bigplinky:
On that China track I think it was more just down the shear speed making them fall rather than a fundimental lack of grip. Dirt berms on that China track would have had to have been huge in my opinion to have a chance of catching the riders they were going that fookin fast cause of the insane (stupid) size of the start hill.

But as a principle tarmac berms are WRONG, BMX is about riding on DIRT and half the fun for me is sliding round berms not been stuck to them like glue (but I do have some sympathey with the low maintanence argument for tracks with not so active clubs or low funds)

kevin rettie:
Having just come back to racing (at Clydebank) its my first experience on Tarmac berms and I find them a bit slippy but not a problem because I am not clipped in like the new schoolers. Its maybe also down to the threadbare grippa I have on the rear but that just adds to the excitement!!

To be honest BITD the dirt berms were slippy as well so from my hazy memories its the same issue really... well maybe until I take a tumble on one!

From track maintenance tarmac must be a dream. There was nothing worse than hacked up berms to ride on and repair.

Dirt or tarmac I guess they've always been challenging.

HEYWOOD BMX:
:) Personally I love tarmac berms.Love the feeling of going sideways when they`re wet and I have Comp 3`s on!
