My credit crunch build...
funkwit:
Money's tight but bikes still need building so i thought I'd try a budget build. No individual bit was allowed to cost more than 30 quid, except for the frameset (1984 DB Formula 1) which cost me £45 and another £40 to powder. I also wanted to use genuine parts rather than knock-offs, so it has Araya 7X rims, Suzue hubs, Dia-Compe Mx-1000 brakes, Shimano 600 cranks, Sugino DB stem etc. It was quite fun restoring all these parts into some kind of decent shape - the wheels were pretty fcuked when I got them so I had to strip the old, faded red anno and polish the rims and hubs and re-lace them. After all this, I never want to see another piece of Wet & Dry again! The seat went 5 quid over budget but I thought it would be a nice touch to have a genuine black Kashi Aero (although it was a Raleigh branded one so I had to lightly sand off the Raleigh branding and apply new decals). I always wanted to build a black Diamond Back, but Formula One decals look rubbish so I decided to cut up some DB Turbo decals and use them - I think it looks pretty cool. The bars, which I'll get rechromed one day, do appear to actually be HL Turbo bars as they have the little hole at the one end. The tyres are cheap rubbish but my plan is to ride this bike a bit so that didn't matter too much. See what you think...
Cheers

Good idea :daumenhoch: Probably give me a bit more space too, it's not a particularly long frame.
Cheers mate
