What the fork!

Hi guys. I'm fairly new to this restoration lark so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I'm fitting some unkown/cheap/copy forks to my Mongoose Cali rider until I get hold of some 'proper' forks. However, the threaded fork seems to be about 1/2" to long for my headset (Tioga Beartrap II).  Is this a fairly common occurance?

Is it possible to cut down the threaded part of the fork or would I be best using some sort of headset spacer?

As long as the top bearing race can run down the thread far enough to tighten the HS correctly then yes, you can cut them down :daumenhoch:

Or use a headset spacer if you dont want to cut the forks down.

Just a little tip mate - if you do cut it down, first thread the hand tight nut all the way down past where you are going to cut  - then when you spin it back off after you've cut - it will re-align / clean up the threads where they've been messed up a little from the cutting  :daumenhoch:

I've put in a spacer from an old mo***ain bike.  It ruin's the look of my lovely headset so I think I'll go for the chop.
