weinmann 1020 caliper

is it possible to remove the shaft on a weinmann 1020 caliper, the type with the plastic knurled wheel instead of a nut, it basically just keeps turning,it looks as though its a push fit and once on wont come off, i need to put a longer shaft on the rear to use on a rampar... any help appreciated...
