What about using a smaller coaster sprocket on the back, which will allow you to use a smaller chainwheel?
You can get coaster sprockets down to 12T, so 33/12 is about the same as 44/16.

are you saying that I could replace the cog I got with my new coaster tuffs with a 12t one? if so where can I get these?

then i doubt youll be able to buy another smaller sprocket, as ive never seen one with the same internal profile as that.

you could have one made up at a machine shop, or make it yourself, if you used a standard 12 tooth as a template, but i think size wise youd struggle to get less than 14 tooth.

make sure the chain will fit round the hub, and not foul on the nylon anywhere.
