3 piece crank fitting help please

motomagII:
right got 3 piece crankage today but dont know what way round the axle goes it has got rim and larger threaded side and other side smaller threaded area .now does the lipped edge go drive side to hold the chainring .please
anything else i should know .
i have tried a sugino cross ring on it and it seems to fit does this sound right /okay ?
by the way if this helps its a new school diamond back crank

yes lipped edge is drive side
do it all up tight to that lip
