I went to a race meeting yesterday at the Kawaguchi track here in Japan (I'll post some more pics over in the new school racing section), though only spectating as my shoulder's still on the mend. Surprisingly, there was a guy in my (over 30s) class running a very tidy-looking, mid-80s GT. I hadn't seen him or the bike before, so quickly introduced myself and took a pic of the bike. Then in the next class up (Masters) was a guy running a GT at the complete opposite end of the spectrum in terms of era, cost, spec, geometry, etc, etc. I know both the bike and rider, and it's a bloody quick combination which later went on to win their main.
Anyways, I thought it might be fun, not to mention interesting to have a poll on which of the 2 GTs you'd like to have, given the chance to own and ride only one of them. So what say you Radsters? Old school GT or new school GT - you decide!!! :daumenhoch:
PS I've never done a poll before, so hope it works! :D
-
that new gt looks a right beast explosion
-
For actual riding it's gotta be the new school. :daumenhoch:
-
The poll ist working fine Mick! :daumenhoch:
Recently I rode an old 80's GT-Pro and loved it right away.
-
I managed to find myself my holy grail of GT's ... an Ultrabox. It's a 2003 but really wanted an earlier one, but something is better than nothing . :)

Picked Old School but disappointed there was no cheese option :teef:

Maybe that's because cheese doesn't ride that well. ??? :LolLolLolLol:

Old school's currently beating new school 2 to 1! & how's this for ya griff?
-
Worlds apart ain't they?
I'd have to pick the old school bike though, the way the rear cog sits below the chainstays on the new bike would do my noggin in!

Although the New School would be nicer to ride (longer etc) I'd go the Old School version.
Just something about being able to roll around and have fun rather than have to have to adopt the correct style to ride Carbon and so on.
Mind you, have been lucky enough to ride a wide variety of older bikes from mates.
Wanting to know how the 84 GT that was repaired to a 21tt would ride...

Could have always added a GT freestyler as a cheese option
One of those late 80s ones with the white plastic pedal/all-white tyre combo that makes them look like a little girl's bike
GT

That's funny! More so because I already have this in my collection:-
-
OK then you can add a GT scooter option as well

Well, with over 71% of the votes, it looks like old school wins the day! Six months ago I wouldn't have disagreed but with my new-found love of racing, I'd definitely have the carbon one. :smitten:
Anyways, thanks to those who voted! :daumenhoch:

There's no school like Old School, age and experience win every time, unless you're Vladamir Klitschko.

:) New one all the way:)
-
easy one for me . I love my 83 Pro

Following up on Dave's comment above, I've just seen this beauty pop up for sale over on the Museum. A 2000 Ultra Box which I reckon falls smack in the middle of the 2 bikes in terms of era - maybe I should add it in to the poll as a mid-school option, just to even things up. Would skew the results a bit though! :D
-
The top one for me, as it's one of the last of the Gary Turner era, the bottom one really reflects racing today though so it's a hard choice!
