-
the writing wears off as soon as a brake block comes near them.
Rub them with 500 grit wet n dry with lots of soapy water, then 1000 grit.

Was this really the case? or just urban myth? i had a set back in 84 and they had writing on them (for about 5 minutes) then the brake rubbed it all off.
I just think the writting was pants and rubbed off, leaving no trace off ever being there.
When did Z's come out? i'm sure it wasn't long before i got them (as people had never seen them before where i lived)
-
I had a set in mid 83 with writing :)
-
Yeah exactly......it could've even been as early as 82 when i got mine....in fact i'm sure it was! and they had writting on them. blue ones and i went through spokes like henry VIII went through wives!

Here's the deal with the Z-rims guys.... I clearly remember cos I bought a set the moment they came out. The early Z's were made in the USA and had no lettering on them, but they did have a small red/blue/chrome sticker which sat on the top face of the rim. Always used to annoy me cos it kept peeling up at the edges due to the profile of the rim. The early rims also used to be dated with a stamp on the inside surface of the rim where your rim tapes go over the spoke nipples. The later rims with the lettering printed on the sides were in fact produced in the UK and used a slightly thinner strain of the NylonZytel material... which to their detriment made the rims a tad more flexy than the USA made ones! Gotta say I love Z's though... I have a NOS pair of USA made ones (complete with stickers) on my Redline MXII.
Hope this clears it all up for ya!!
