Title: 2010 RADBMX Charity ride! 5th September!!!
Post by: pickle on April 22, 2010, 09:44 AM
Okay guys.......i've been thinking long and hard over this and i want to make this years event the biggest and best we've done so far!

as for the date? i want to coincide it with the London Sky ride again as the last time we did that it was a great atmosphere  :daumenhoch:  they haven't released the date yet so as soon as they do i will let you know.

anyways, onto the important bit, the charity??  after last year i know we opened it up for everyone to vote and Great Ormand Street Hospital was pretty much the most popular, so as i work in the NHS i have spoken to them and told them that we're going to choose them as our charity of choice for this year  :daumenhoch:

They have agreed to give us, yes 'give us free of charge' up to 100 T shirts for the ride so we can all wear them and support them on the day.

i shall be getting official sponsor forms sent to me which i can forward onto people who are going to attend or just want to sponsor the event?

anyways........so i hope we can get 100 people to dust off those old school rides (new school and cruisers are welcome) and lets make it the biggest and best to date!!

they have also said they would like to offer us tours of the hospital and would like a big photo of us outside the hospital afterwards with a big cheque  :daumenhoch:

for a sponsor form please download here

Rob after what happened last year why not just stick a decent price (affordable but worthy) say a fiver and that will generate a decent amount to start off with... if you want to break records and why not you got to go in with a decent plan....

be ruthless mate - get the cash in...

ill get Kat to bring more of her Girlies along - thatll get another load coming along...

yes get the girlies there
Title: Re: 2010 RADBMX Charity ride!
Post by: pickle on April 26, 2010, 11:52 AM
Ohhhhhh yes more girlies are the way forward!  but it's a bit of a double edged sword with the T's......last year Zippy got lumbered with a shed load of T's cos they never sold (for £5 each) now if i get 100 of the things i don't want to be carrying 70 of them around me for the rest of the day!

i'd rather people got them and we all look official and people can see what we're all doing (while we run them over along the southbank)  ;D

no t shirts for the girlies strictly nurses uniforms as its for a hospital.

finally found a website that is dedicated to the sky ride.  basically the dates for the 'city' rides haven't been released yet only the local ones.  (trust me they wouldnt want us on those!)

I've registered with the site now so as soon as the date is released i'll let you all know....

I don't mind doing the plates again for this year - I just hope the Skyride is not on the same day as the Brits as last year as we won't be able to make it - already booked our pitch at Cheddar.

yes i hope so as well Cazbo otherwise i'll have to have a rethink on the date, as i wouldn't want to double book it  :daumenhoch:

i have a huge apology to make.......spoke to the lady at GOSH this afternoon and she made a mistake regarding the T shirts, turns out she can't 'give me' 100 T's....they normally only give fund raisers 5 Ts for free then it's £5 donation per T shirt.

so it's up to you guys if you still want one or not?

for all those poeple who have already said yes i can understand if you don't want one now  :-[

Have chucked a few quid in the kitty for the cause.  Shame we're now so far away from 'the smoke' (I lie, I love being as far away from the sh*thole of London  ;) ) but the year we did the ride it was a hoot.  Good luck with the fund-raising Rob and everyone taking part.  The boys and I will be with you in spirit.  Humps

okay, Bill set up his justgiving site which is fine.....but lets try and keep it all in one place can we.

the one to use is www.justgiving.com/robert-bransby

this is the RADBMX charity ride one  :daumenhoch:

it starts at waterloo station, goes along the southbank and over tower bridge, we then head up towards spitlefields market and stop at the gun pub for refreshments, then it's down towards St Pauls and along the strand and we can pick up the Skyride route, which we can then circle as much as we want to  :daumenhoch:

distance is about 10/12 miles i guess??

Anyone know of any parking near Waterloo... I'm gonna have to drive it all the way.

Trains are too expensive, take too long and don't get me there in time  :knuppel2:

Other info I need as follows :

- Meeting Point is 10am under clock at Waterloo Station... never been  :D is it easy enough to find?
- What time will we get finished up?

catch the tube from High Barnet a few miles of the A1M M25 Junction as parking is cheap as chips and  the tube will take you into the city  :4_17_5:

High Barnet Station, London Underground Ltd., Barnet Hill, Barnet, Herts, EN5 5RP get a travel card and off you go

Post by: pickle on August 11, 2010, 07:50 AM
yeah do what Mr Peeps says and park outside (on the tube line) and tube it in, you can park near the station but it's a right pig to find anywhere free or cheap.

as for the meeting place? people will start to gather from about 9:45 onwards and believe me you will not be able to miss us Ed  :daumenhoch:

as for finishing?  well about 4ish normally, after we've done the usual route we dip into the London Sky ride and we can do the full route of that as well  :daumenhoch:

What about High Barnet like Brett suggests??? anybody?

Don't wanna feck about parking and getting in to find a cannae get on  :-\

( 2 mins later )

Just had me a little google...

http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=65 (http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=65)

I quote...

"Folded bicycles can be taken free of charge on all sections of the network at all times.

Non-folding bicycles can be taken free of charge on some sections of the network outside peak times. Peak times are 07.30 - 09.30 and 16.00 - 19.00, Monday to Friday, except for public holidays.

In certain cases, as listed, non-folding bicycles may also be taken during rush hour in the opposite direction to the majority of travellers. Please be aware that riders of shit hot lovingly restored old school bmx bikes may take their rides on the tube whenever they fekkin like. If these cyclists are frequent RADBMX users then they can even move old or disabled people who may be blocking the paths of their lovely bikes."

"FACT"

In the same boat, or rather car, will be driving down but as it's a Skyride will certain places be closed off in London for the cyclists as I recall last years skyride in Leicester, the centre was closed off to traffic.

Will try and get near Waterloo/poss see if an NCP is near by.

Dilema mate...it was brill to ride around on at MK after the initial purchase, but I'm now reluctant to use (carpet queen :(). I could change the tyres, rims, brake pads, pedals, chainring so as not to mark em, but how far do you go. More than likely will ride the Vertigo or thinking of building up the Haro Shredder.

For those planning on coming into Waterloo by Tube please check out the planned closures, they are modernising a lot of the tube lines at the moment which means a lot of disruption at weekends.

i'm coming in from North London and going to go from Sudbury Town station on the picadilly line (i think) then just ride to Waterloo from Picadilly circus  :daumenhoch:

yeah i could ride my Assassin or use my NS Proclaimer but i really fancy the street beat, i'm sure it'll hold up okay........might give it a run round the block tonight and see how she goes, otherwise it'll be the assassin i guess and the early steel hubbed blue tuffs will have to go!

The Gun is opposite Spitalfields market so yeah loads of places for all tastes....

oh and those that get to Waterloo Early - check Maccy D's just downstairs from the Clock at waterloo as most of us hide out there....

:LolLolLolLol:  bloody stupid idiot in his Skoda!   >:(   although it was my fault to be honest  ;D  but hey ho, he's the one with a nice dent and scratch

twas a great day, shame we all got split up going down Oxford St (as bloody usual) but you just can't stop the kids from rushing off at the front.

it was great to see lots of new faces and also meet up with some top old friends.......my day was only spoilt at the end by not being allowed on the tube and having to ride from Picadilly down to south kensington to get on the damn train  >:(  they wouldn't let me on but some stupid woman with a buggie the size of a family car goes straight through  :tickedoff:

but all in all another top day in the big smoke  :daumenhoch:

Huge thanks to everyone for coming along and making it a top day out, without you lot i'd just riding round on my own  ;D  and thanks to Gashead for your help in keeping up the rear and making sure no one got left behind  :4_17_5:

Its funny meeting people off RAD in person and having no idea who their user name is. Joe knew you were ..... you  :LolLolLolLol:
That last few miles of riding was one of my fav parts of the day. When else will we be able to bomb thro the tunnel, weaving in and out of the cats eyes and hitting the little banks on the side of the road. So much fun, pure BMX!

was a manic day - excellent fun but am feeling it today after bashing my elbow getting taken out by a kid on the sky ride... (too many bikes on it now, think we will have to have a re think on that next year, normally it helps having the traffic off the roads but the amount of bikes on sky ride makes it more dangerous....)

sorry we all got split up - was a pain constantly trying to keep the kids in check from racing off every lights.... at least we all made it to GOSH for the photo opps.

Props to all that helped out.... lets get the sponsership cash in and get the total rising....ive got some pics on FB.

oh and there was that really dodgy chick outside st pauls trying to ply Alex with a quite likely drugged energy drink!
(if Jimmy P had been there he would have sniffed her out as some government agent there to sniff out the rebellious bmxing ring leaders and take them out!)

"do you want this? (offers S&M Al an energy drink) oh that sounds a bit dodgy doesn't it" yes love it totally did! lol.

Ive just had a quick look on mapmyrun.com. Me and joe cycled about 8 miles once we got off the bus near Marble arch, along the south of the river (did some wallrides at southback), back over Tower bridge to Spit'fields (Ive not been there since watching Hoffman ride in 92), all before we'd even met up with everyone else. Then we cycled round London a bit, along the "crash straight" to the tunnel and back, then right back along the river to Earls Court to get the bus home. Thats gotta be over 20 miles, plus the 5 miles we did in Oxford.

Maybe I SHOULD have taken that girls Energy drink. I think I needed it.

We didn't get to Battersea until about 12pm so we were an hour behind...still caught the bunch up at the Gun even after stopping to let Alex play around on the southbank for a bit. but by then you'd done a runner!

Joe, you MUST remember where we were at 12? We were on the south of the river, cycling opposite big ben, RIGHT as it was chimming 12 noon. It must have had some kind of significance ..... not sure what tho

even after stopping to let Alex play around on the southbank for a bit.

by "play" you mean "fired out some moved that even philbert would have been stunned by!". I think those 2 kids on MTBs were amazed. Im not sure the 4 year old on the 12" BMX was too impressed tho. He kept crossing my line and messin me up when I was tring to get on that sub box.

I would just like to say thanks to everyone for a great day out  :daumenhoch: to Pickle and others who help make it that great day

I would like to say sorry for anyone that went mad, with me driving them crazy with my siren - but it did work when going through red lights and with pedestrians and at one point we pulled a van over thinking it was the cops behind him  :2funny:

as per each year MATT/swivel never failed to have some thing wrong with his bike from the start  ::) ;D happy in the end that he got his bolt and was able to come off the Valium to keep riding along with us big boys  :LolLolLolLol:

most of us would like to that wolfgirl for getting her bum out at the gun pub

the mini thrashers that ketp the pack up to speed in the front of the ride  >:D

Holwuff for snapping his chain - but the lad at Evans for sorting it out and getting him back on the road

bam bam for nearly kicking it off before it had started at the train station with the guard - all pubs have been alerted for next year  ;) ;D

It was good to meet you all - some great rides that were pure class - we need a few more plasters for the fallen - a few more tools for the finger tight

GREAT DAY OUT - CHEERS ALL  :4_17_5:

If it wasn't a 120 mile round  trip I would be tempted, on the other hand my arse was v sore on Monday so maybe not. Good to meet more faces from the site all top people!  :daumenhoch:
