Here we go again :slayer: First build in over 8 months
Spotted this on FB . I've always wanted a sport to sit with the Gen 1 Freestyler :)
And this popped up :smitten: 1984 Gen 1 Sport . Only 10 in the world apparently
Early days yet, but it's already on it's way to SBD for fresh white paint. It only ever came as a F&F so it's completely open to what parts i decide to use.
Slightly nervous as it's my first Freestyle bike from scratch. But excited .

Great choice .. :4_17_5:
..And you only need to find Fuan F1s .. Bonus ! :D
-
Nice one Carl. I've flirted with the idea of getting a Haro a few times. Good to see you've got one. Plenty of experts on here to give you advice/tips, plus you know the bloke who designed it which always helps :LolLolLolLol:
-
Thanks all . Started looking at old photos and searching for parts.
I was thinking OPC, for a change . But seen a nice set of Redline flights ::) ;D
-
Redline with Ian's Anlun disc might look nice

So what's the deal with these regarding their rarity? Why only numbered upto 250? I'm sorry I know absolutely nothing about these in terms of production numbers/slight variations from and within years. Can anyone enlighted me?

Here is what info I have found .
Hi Carl , the sport you have bought is the 1st generation and probably the only Sport to ever where the signature Mike Dominguez on the chain stays as I believe these were only made by Torker over maybe a 4 month run as the 2nd gen was released with the tapered stays in Aug 84.
The 1st gen sport has non tapered tubing unlike any other 84 sport, same as the 1st Master .
Mike left Haro summer 84 to hutch, which meant any sport after this time had Bob Haro signature on the chain stays
1st gen- Torker/non taper
2nd gen.- Torker/ thin taper
3rd gen- tai made/ tapered with chevrons stamped in gusset
-
Great info Carl :4_17_5:
This is going to be some build ... As you know I'm quite partial to anything Haro related ::)
-
Nice parts collected so far Carlos. Are you planning on doing custom decals on the white, or sticking with factory colour's, or is it a big secret and you're planning a reveal? ???

OG decals . With the grey stripe cut round the gusset like it should be :daumenhoch:

To add to this the Gen 1 had the coaster tab BELOW the chainstay, same as Masters and also the Gen2 and 3 had a swage line at the bottom of the rear dropouts....

MK17 Show and Shine Winner coming right up :D

This is warming up nicely, although I would've preferred a nice opc instead of 3 piece

Indeed, I just like the clean lines of an opc, we were all poor as kids and never had 3 pieces!!!

Interesting crank choice. Whats the thoughts behind using such early cranks, was there a particular freestyler that did that or are you just "thinking different"?

BITD , when I raced . Nothing was ever date correct .
Luckily I started on a GT pro , with OPC that I bent jumping off the garage . Then to Suntour VX , even fooking worse ! I Must have rounded 5 sets of them. Jumping King Kong . 3'sisters
Mum got pissed off and bought me some flights . They followed me . From an 82 GT - 83 Robinosn pro to an 84 RSR . Never broke ! Not one problem .
So . I'm building this my way ! With whatever parts I think it deserves .
Just like I did BITD. :daumenhoch:

Another person with the right attitude... This hobby is meant to be fun!
Era correctness and spec builds have their place but sometimes it's about what you remember and what YOU want :daumenhoch:

explosion
It's strange to think that this is your first freestyle build Carl, it's going to look minty.
-
Bit more tinkering tonight . :daumenhoch:
I was worried about how a few parts would look , but I'm happy with the outcome .
As it only ever came as a F&F , it's allowing me to build it how I'd have wanted it BITD . And a little different from the "factory Spec" bikes .

That would be my only SMALL criticism too Dan...A freestyler needs a front brake, how else are you supposed to do endo's rollbacks on trick ramps or get into infinity rolls and cherrypickers??! :-\

Worthy of a babe of the day entry, there was more of a reaction down stairs in the trouser department looking at these pics than when I look at some of the tat entered in the babe thread.
