Scary,

You got any before and after pics of their work and an idea of costs?

Just thinking it may be worth building up a database of trusted/good suppliers that we can send our valuables to!

Thanks

Paul

Heres some of there work..
Bare in mind this is chrome over alloy..
(very hard too polish before chroming, as u don’t want the writing rubbing away)

This lot was £55

Did they do the prep work aswell or did you have to spend hours rubbin'?

They look great. I have sent a set of crank arms and some manky brake calipers to the folks at Clevedon Chroming, once I get these back I'll compare with the stuff I had done at castleford Chrome and post pics etc. I may well send the next batch of bits to Leigh's.

have you had a quote for f+f mr leary?
Title: Re: chroming
Post by: scary_leary on January 25, 2006, 11:10 AM
yeah they do all the prep..

never taken a f/f..but you will have too take parts in, they dont really quote over phone.

jezza off here and the burner forum has used them..and was well pleased.

i once took a set of steel pro class rims in for matt ..aka, mattgaybeat and was quoted £120
they said alot of work had too go into polishing around every little hole, so i reckon a f/f set should be around £150 maybe £120

Post by: oberonspacefruit on January 25, 2006, 11:12 AM
yeah, i have had problems with rims, they have to be carefull, otherwise the big polishers they use widen the spoke holes. thus it takes a lot more time, thus it cost a lot more.

Hi matt, i wouldnt say it was perfect, there was a couple of spots that they didnt seem to polish rite around the bottom bracket area but andys pro class seems to have the same problem (top of bb bracket between the two tubes)

The bars and forks however are perfect....the frame was real shot anyway with deep rust on the rear triangle which show a few blemishes, i think maybe he couldnt be arsed  :LolLolLolLol:....thought about getting it powdered black and calling it a pro class which some do (it was a supergoose 3).

if its perfection you want ive never seen it on a restoration good luck

Was it nickel coated first?

Maybe that was why it was £170 rather than £60.
Title: Re: chroming
Post by: lazychubs on February 25, 2006, 09:44 PM
plus be carefull with most chromers make sure they
guarantee there work as its hard to chrome frames
as it arks around the bottom bracket
and is not as thick of chrome
ie yellowing .and will rust there first
hence y i havent got mine done yet
ive been quoted £70 for
frame forks and bars

Yeah matt...and look at the quality of the finish!

still using biagio?  :2funny:
Title: Re: chroming
Post by: matt on February 27, 2006, 08:57 PM
no complaints with biagio and his chromer,  it won best race bike at bournemouth, and his price for a frame and forks was cheaper than your chromers price for a pair of wheels   :D
i love ya really mr lee :-*
