This BMX lark is getting stressful ! :(
Okay, so I have 5 un-completed Builds on the go at the mo,(I should really stick to building One at a Time eh ?) ….and I have currently run out of money, totally skint due to various bills, set backs etc…., I can't find the correct bars for 2 of em, I still need Wheels for One, Cranksets, a long list of specific parts, and various other 'hard to find' bits are constantly eluding me,…, prices are rising, Yanks won't ship….! I am getting stressed ! >:(
Am I on my own here ??? ::)
Tell me I'm not….please !! :-\
-
I'm doing my first build and I'm getting stressed cos I keep buying the wrong bits, due to ignorance :-[
-
it does get a bit over the top at times.
i've done this myself in the past.
dont bother some much now.
dont put yourself in shite over the bikes though.
they nice but not that nice lol.
-
rome wasnt built in a day. :)
-
I think it all depends on whether you are building to show/era correct/spec correct, or just building to ride....therefore can maybe get bits that are a little bit cheaper/less rare?
But having 5 on the go is taking the p*ss mate ;)
Can't just conbine the bits and at least make 3 out of em?
-
Tough one
As dan said rome wasnt built in a day
I have waited 5 years for 1 bit , and only just got it as well , so patients ( SP) lol
Or tune your collection , realise what it is that you really want and just go for that , sell the rest to fund the real special build you want
Rich
-
i guess that there will always be compromise here or there, personally I don't always follow the 'correct era' rule, if I can't get THAT Part there are alternatives, but some of the alternatives are getting expensive...., and some of THOSE parts are essential the bikes I'm building…!
I recently bought a couple of MX901 Brakesets, £35 a set ! Purely cos MX1000's are getting ridiculously over valued ! I like em, and they're still cheap…and loadsa colours…
-
I like the Nippons mate....they work well too
-
those Nippons are nice, but are also getting rarer....
I hope to have one completed some time soon :), the rest will have to wait until I've paid the bills, ;)

too true, but would have been best to realise what you really want before the five bikes, as lettin go is hard to do
-
that is true....i really liked the Reflex that i just sold....it was a hard decision to sell it but it funded my new bike...of which i have fallen in love with :smitten:

The thing i find most frustrating is that people are willing to trade the bits you need, but not sell them to you if you have nothing they need :wtf: so they put them up in there loft again never to be seen when those bits could complete a showbike for everyone to admire. :daumenhoch:
-
Ah Ha
the old trade but not sell trick
I do this on parts now LOL because I will only trade my hard to find bits for other hard to find bits, if I was to sell them , i end up with cash that I will gentlemans relish on other things or the part i want is not availiable at that point.
I do not sell anything now as i kick myself later when i either realise i want the bit after all or i could trade it for something i wanted
Rich

All is clear now :D :LolLolLolLol: . But it dosen't help us newbies that don't have hard to find bits lying around to trade :-\ :'(
-
yes its him hes got a stash.
i have a fair few rare parts i wont sell,as waxin said i would easily spend the money.
i would trade for a part i need thou.or i sell to get something i need if no trades about.
-
i had 3 bikes but i came to the conclusion i only needed 1 really nice era correct bike, so thats all i have now and it won best freestyle oldschool build at the last epic xmas event so well chuffed :4_17_5:
-
LOL
It hard to judge to be fair
I mean i sold harris some nice forks the other month , now i know i shouldnt of really sold them LOL as I am sure to need them at some point, but I needed to invest the cash elsewhere ( Disco Stuff) so i justified it that way
But I have some real nice bits that I havent used for ages ,but will only trade them for other cool stuff that I would potentialy need further down the line
And I will not go into the stuff that I have mislaid , I have managed to lose a SE Pad set in a very rare colourway LOL and a Pair of tuffs ? fook knows where they have gone ,hiding in the loft of shed I reckon
Rich
-
they will be looked after :) good lad.
-
i reckon all the Hoarders should publish a list of their goodies !! ;)

I used to hit bike shops , they used to come up trumps sometimes
and swapping stuff with the haneys was always a good weeze as some bits availiable in the uK WERE CONSIDERED RARE IN THE usa so i got some cool swaps
But yea prices have gone ballistic for the last 3 or so years
I cant afford this stuff now , and find it harder and harder to get something to build because of it, i do feel for the newer collectors who are limited in what they can buy or more importantly afford
Rich
-
The pad set pizzes me off more
light blue writing on a mid blue pad
and i want to use them as well , I lost my DP freestyler pads and they turned up , so i hope these do as well
-
too true Rich.the salad days are gone... ;)
-
Indeed , but some nice stuff is turning up still , found in garages and sheds
its all still out there and waiting to be found
maybe a few old shop inventorys are still sitting somewhere
and for sure loads of old bikes are somewhere
so boot fairs , tips and sheds are the way forward
Its like all collectables , the first few years see the NOS stuff being bought , then it turns into something else and the repro stuff starts to appear , then the arse falls out of it for a few years then it picks up , so who knows whats around the corner?
MK07 for sure LOL

There's a few people starting to sell up on here, is this the start of the arse falling out ?????
-
selling up na just some have had a fair few rides sitting around for a while collecting dust and get bored of them.
so sell some then build some more.happens with alot of stuff this time of year.

I'm not sure, times are hard, you get a few unexpected Bills, and you have to sell your stash, I think prices WILL rise for the foreseeable future, prices have risen consistantly since I got into this game, I have only been back into old school BMX for 18 months, and I have bought some real cheap stuff compared to todays market pricing.
I used to collect Football Memorabilia, I bought 6 old Adidas Tango Football's about 10 years ago, I paid nearly nothing, £5 to £10 a pop, I made nearly £3000 on them last year, one selling for £750 another 2 for £500 each !!
Yesterday junk is today's bounty, but as we get older, I'm 38 this year, the interest may fade, and who's gonna replace us ?? Tower Bridge mate !!
WIll we still be here when we're 50 !?? Who knows, collecting maybe, but riding..eerrm ;D
-
I have been involved in Historic Kart racing for a while now and the situation is the same. There are a few people who have managed to stash loads of stuff and being a newcomer it's pretty difficult finding it now. Good luck to them though really as they could have ended up with a garage full of scrap if things hadn't taken off in the way they have done.
It does make it extra sweet when you grab a bargain from under their noses off ebay though. ;)

You made £3000 bugger i'm going in the loft to find all my old footballs. :LolLolLolLol:

Its like any hobby , why are you here , why do you collect ?
If as some have obviously done is to collect and then fall out of love with it, then yes thier arse has fallen out of it, but we seem to be growing , the prices are still on thew way up and thier seems to be no lack of willing buyers to soak up the stuff that is being sold
so in general it seems that the hobby is on the up , my thoughts are that its got a few years untill the bubble " may burst " but that only helps the comitted collector , who will buy the cheaper stuff cos they want the bits no matter what everyone else is doing
fashion and cool have a part to play , as this hobby seems to be pretty cool and fasionable and will get more so this year with the exposure we will get and the upturn in BMX as a whole
I hope that we see a downturn soon , as i can snap up parts for low money and continue collecting
but its nice to know that what we do is not just a few , but many

I only wanted to build a bmx for nostalgic reasons,of what i had back in the day,i now have nearly enough for 3,i didn't start because it was in. Come on i wan't some Pro class cranks. :LolLolLolLol:
-
it would be nice if the prices 'soften' a bit, otherwise a lot of us will be priced out of the market,
I am going to have to sell some more Football Stuff, I have loads, I have fallen out of love with the 'beautiful' Game, but fortunately the masses haven't including the collectors,.............................. ;)
-
I'm also doing it just for nostalgic reasons :) Will give it a whizz round MK this year, though. Need to practice my bunny hops :D
-
ive got my eye on 1 rider that i want then everything else ive accumlated over the last 17 mnths is going to be honest ive never been much for collecting things
I like to use stuff, always have always will
Rad bmx "old school bikes" has really got me into riding bikes again something I had forgotten how much loved as a child
so for me its
1 old school race bike (to win all the races at braintree on ;) )
1 me S&M for falling off on ;)
and when i cant ride any more then its off to the local golf course to get old gracefully and die ;)
-
i'm already at the golf course :LolLolLolLol: .riding doesn't do it for me anymore although i still like watching... ;)

hi
i keep a eye for those pads rich and do need a black set as well ,will repro`s do if i can get them again .
also regarding projects that the fun isn`t it trying to find bits i know i most probably got a fair few on the go but don`t really thing about them just look for stuff that i need which isn`t at lot but then when you find another bike it starts all over again .
-
i think it might be easier on my pocket if i hire
a project manager they might keep my builds
and budget on track. :)
-
only real stress at the moment, HOW AM I GONNA MOVE THEM ALL :-\
bugger.
-
Lol we all turn up . and go on a Holland bender then ride them back for you on the ferry lol
-

-
rom wasnt built in a day. :)
I just got my redline pro line forks from the states! Ive been looking for 12 months..... just be patient, all good things come to those who wait!!!
-
I started about 3 years ago with old school bikes, then sold most of them and with the exception of my old school race bike I only had new school stuff. Now sold all that and have only old school again. But I am thinking seriously of selling my Aero Pro so i can afford a new school bike and pay off my credit card.
Everything is out there, it's just not NOS anymore, most likely just been put on show bikes, but everyone will sell in the end.
-
ive just read the whole thread
are we forgetting one important point
the collecting of OS bmx
make me wrong
is supposed to be stress relief
not stress inducing
-
I have three builds on the go, keep buying parts for one and changing my mind ::) Bought one as a summer project but can't stop buying bits for it ::) The other is my holy grail and is waiting to go to the paint shop which I hope will be early next week, nearly all parts bought (just a couple of minor bits to go) ::)
Also got two new schoolers I'm going to get jiggy with and change the colour schemes on so it doesn;t stop it only goes on, and on but feck me it's better than sitting on your arse at a computer screen .... Eh? What? Where am I? :crazy2:
-
The other is my holy grail
Marty, something you wanna tell me???????????
-
I lay awake at night thinking about bmx parts and how am i going to get hold of them and new builds i could do :idiot2: :idiot2: :idiot2: fooking never been so stressed in my life :4_17_5:
-
I lay awake for hours thinking of what parts will go on my latest build. I am a sad fook though. I've been on this site for almost 40 days now. :D :D :D

Got to do something, wonder if one has ever come on eGay? Do you reckon Cav would have sold his off? What about Superbikes, did they keep records of who they sold bikes and frames to? :crazy2:
-
I spoke to superbike Dan about this the other week, apparently rich sold the lot to em, and superbike painted them and re stickered them :-[, I havent even seen a good pic of one. I think cav would have outed his when he got his first mini ::)
All the ACE team riders I knew would have snapped the frames anyhow, they wre prone to snapping with that solid gusset.
So my guess is there is going to be very few about, probably as scarce as holeshots frames :-[ :-[
Bloody hell, if one does come up on the bay are me an you gonna get into a big ebay war :2funny:
