ok folks, this is gonna be my first project of the summer.
close to mint structurally, aside from a bit of one drop-out missing due to ledge grinds - soon to be sorted with a welder and a bit of filler metal.
big question i need answered is - anyone know what (other) colours this frame came in?
got a NOS set of (era-correct) decals ready to apply after painting, but don't reckon i'm gonna go with trying to replicate the metallic / candy apple red type colour the frame was originally.
any suggestions?
Bp.

Hmm, got a set of orange tyres from ftobmx :daumenhoch: and some NOS mushy's in orange arrived from the states this am...
feel a black and orange scheme coming on...
-
go for it :daumenhoch:
-
have you seen the loverly blue one in the museum.....btw where did you get that frame, and what year is it?
-
Looks around a 1999/2000 frame...not sure on the colours from that year...what do the graphics look like?
-
I'd go a little earlier - it has the skinnier rear end.... I reckon earliest 1995, latest 1999. I'm not sure when the fatty back ends came in, but I had a 2000 model which was a fatty. :)
-
I don't think the seat tube looks laid-back enough for 95 to 98 - unless it's my eyes playing games on me...
The sticker set would indicate a 98 +, but the red wasn't available in 98 and I believe they went to the more upright seattube in 1999...Rob, I agree with you on the fatty thing for 2000, so I still reckon a 99...(not that it matters - it's sweeeet, and I'm just trying to help identify!) -

hey guys, cheers for your input.
bought the frame on ebay a coupla years back (bit of an impulse buy, and i don't recall it actually costing that much to be honest) and the same with the sticker set, which looks very like the one on Dave's scan (cheers for that - i don't have any mags from round that time, so it's cool to see)
it's got a 1 1/8" headtube, 14mm dropouts and i'll see what the serial no. is, to try and see what light it sheds, but the seat tube's definitely not very laid-back in comparison to the museum listings.
didn't get any forks with it, but i did get a set of D130 ones from cyclesport a while ago, which i was planning on using with it.
they're of a similar chunky build... and are a sort of metallic green colour, and i'm planning to use the "inspector" on the whole lot...
plus, i'm really wishing i hadn't gotten rid of the HB super stem i had....
i'm in work at the moment, but i'll post a pic of the stickerset later on tonight.
cheers guys,
Brian.

Just found the spec for the 1999 Condor...appears the seattube was still 65 degree(?)...went to 68 degree in 2000...anyhow, thought you might like the full spec for re-building (see below)...oh, and colour choice includes the maroon! (2000 was black, white and chrome)

Stodgy - I bow to your superior knowledge mate, I didn't even know about the change in seattube angle... I only ever noticed the fatty back ends as a difference in the later models :-[
Brian, I'm liking the flat black 8)
-
Stodgy
Where did you get the parts list like that? :coolsmiley:
Cheers

Sweet sticker set Brian - liking that a lot! Should look rad (but you're gonna loose the script 'Condor' sticker on a black frame (mind you - it could look quite cool as it would be shiny and the frame matt black).
I know it's not correct, but I would go for a white or a light blue frame to make the most of those stickers, it would look fabulous.
Rob - Sorry mate I wasn't trying to be too anal, just did a load of research when I built mine...
Stace - For full specs on most bikes, try this link: http://www.airfreetires.com/specs/

hoping to get a lick of paint on it this weekend.

Ooooo - looking good! How long is that steerer tube?!
Have you decided on a colour?
:daumenhoch:

Ooooo - looking good! How long is that steerer tube?!
Have you decided on a colour?
:daumenhoch:
is a bit, ain't it?
steerer tube is a good 180mm (7 inches) and the headtube is a more regular 100mm (4 inches).
gonna be a lot of tube sticking out the top of the stem b4 i cut it...
the top of the steerer is threaded too, like the old 1" forks. is this to take the big top cap hoffman used on their completes?
colourwise: flat black, definitely, but i'm not sure how the (mainly blue) decals will look with the orange scheme i'm thinking of...
Bp.
-
ok, time for a quick update.
pics taken about half an hour ago, after i finished stickering it up. jeez i can't wait to get this thing built and take it out...
hopefully have it built during or b4 next weekend.
later guys...
ps - dave, turned out i had the fork stickers, just found them in my sticker stash, but can i please take the silver rub-on's off ur hands anyway? cheers buddy,

i would lose the orange. just my opinion. it looks so classy in the black.
-
it is a bit bright, ain't it?
(i nearly put my pink tuffs, pink seat, pink cable and pink grips on it... :idiot2: )
Bp.
-
dont get me wrong, i like orange. those tyres arent nice to ride on, i have some myself.
its partly cos i would really like a condor, and i would probably take ages choosing a colourscheme so it was just so...
i think i just really liked the satin black, it makes it look like a stealth bomber.
the orange , for me, detracts from that.
its your bike though mate.....go with whatever floats your boat.
-
yeah that's the thing. this isn't doin it for me yet.... really think it looked better as just the frame and forks.
need to carry that over to a complete build...
(my kids (aged 3 and 6) love it tho!)
-
The parts off my Hoffman Flash would look perfect on that...what do you think Phil?
-
what're u saying dave? u wanna strip ur flash and send me the bits? :LolLolLolLol:
-
lets see a pic of the flash.....
-
Brian - If I win the lottery, the bits are yours! ;)
Phil - 'twas the one I had at MK...I need to get some pics taken and up, was hoping to do it at the weekend, but the wife took the camera away with her! Arrrgggh.
:daumenhoch:
-
cheers mate, and if i win, you're all invited to ride in my own indoor skatepark and trails, with a hooters bar upstairs... :daumenhoch:
made a few changes after tea tonight...

think I get a better "vibe" from this setup, although it sorta looks like any "new school" ride I've had...
Bp.
-
does it fook. that looks way better.
-
thats a bike to be recognised by people in the know. and it will be all the better for it.
-
Personal preference but I liked it with the orange bits.
-
well you are wrong then. ....lol
-
Yeah right, novii. ;)
-
even though i like 'em a bit older....
that looks the cats knackers and much nicer in black..
superb job buddy... it's awsome!!!! :4_17_5:

cheers bud! :daumenhoch:
