I used Seans guide Gaz.

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=136816.0

Mine worked out at 182mm for 3 cross and 192mm for 4 cross.

Honestly Gaz, use my calculator to work out the sizes, never take anyone else's word for it.

You wouldn't believe the amount of messages I get from members that want to know why the spokes do not fit, simply because someone on site said use 'xyz' size spoke.  When you work it out for yourself you will never go back.

7X style rims to low flange hubs such as Suzue, Suntour, Sunshine and Shimano etc = 189 - 194mm dependent on the size of the nipples. 16mm nipples for 189mm spokes going down to 12mm for 194mm spokes. All 3 cross pattern.

High flange exactly the same but using 184 - 188mm,

Simples.

But if Gaz calculates the spoke sizes for himself then that has to be a better way than trusting somebody elses word.

You may be right, but if you were wrong because he uses slightly different hubs etc then would you give him back the money he spends on spokes?

I would ask what hubs and rims he was using first if he hadn't stated, then no refunds would be required.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good guide. I just like to get advice from people that have done it too  :daumenhoch:

186mm spoke size Gaz, well, well, well bit different to 192-194mm as advised wasn't it?

As I say guys, never ever trust somebody elses word, I have build hundreds of wheels now and everytime I do, I always check measure the hubs/wheels and use a calculator to make sure 100% that the spokes I buy are the correct size.

I have also never told anybody what size spokes to use for a particular rim/hub combination simply because it is best to do your own calculatons.

186mm spokes used by Gary with 16MM NIPPLES  =  202mm overall length

192mm spokes with 10mm nipples  =  202mm overall length

It's not just the spokes that play a role in a wheel build, it's the nipple length you choose too.

You will also note that, dependent on nipple to spoke to size, your spoke will engage the nipple at different depths when you have finished true-ing the wheel.

Had Gary used 10mm nipples when building this wheel, he would have a problem when coming to ride it  :daumenhoch:
