Don’t do many build threads these days , mostly as Photobucket is buggered & its a pain to upload pics onto here, but I've thought this & another build to come would be worth while …
Not sure it’s particularly wise to attempt this in the middle of a painful & drawn out house move either but i’ll give it a go, so please stick with me …
First let me say that I've been lucky enough to own 3 TRM’s over the past 7 years or so but non were of the quality i really wanted & i let them go one by one .
My best mate Back in the day had a chrome TRM & I have to say i loved it & always wanted to have one in the same chrome finish … We came from having Puch & Marlboro entry level BMX’s to owning a TRM & a Rickman (both Chrome) within 12 months or so in 84’ & we loved those bikes dearly…
Recently Luke who many of you may know, decided to sell up his collection of TRM’s & I decided that i really wanted another after shelving my 3rd TRM which Ironically I sold to Luke in 2017…
After missing out on Luke’s chrome F&F that he’d sold a few days before I spotted this Grey one, with Rickman bars, bars which i needed for my other build as id purchased a Mk 2 Rickman Freestyler from Tim March a couple of weeks earlier ……
[attachment=1]
I knew a little about this particular TRM frame set as it had previously been owned by Kerryman & since his ownership had changed hands at least twice to people i knew …
After speaking to Benno i found out hat it was originally a painted frame & was still in original condition when Matthew bought it at MK14… Mike also mentioned that Matt had it sent straight to SBD to be powdered (as he’d won a free powder coat that year in the show & shine)…
Now, knowing Dan i know that he generally strips frames properly before painting or powdering & most importantly he doesn't get them media blasted. So i it made sense to me that under the really nice but bubbling grey powder coat should be a great donor frame for Chrome which would show off the brazing fillets (as they shouldn't have been blasted or polished out)...
if they had been messed with my fall back was a plan to powder the frame another Original TRM colour Baby Pink ….

Nice one Callum, love these frames.....i like the sound of a baby pink one! :daumenhoch:

The Rickman bars were actually chrome underneath the powder but badly key'd & as you know Rickman products have notoriously good brazing but for some reason this set didn't look so great So I had them de chromed along with the Chrome frame set i got from Tim which belonged to his son. This was supposed to be a rider but after an OA bath the chrome in places on the forks in particular was just too far gone for me (id bought all the parts for the rider build as well ) but now its stripped back i have other plans for this frame set & it will be my next build .

What an amazing frame set , the chrome work came out very nice
-
Del came up Trumps, although a distinct lack of tac on one of the fork decals which moved a lot & creased when i applied it...
Will see how it looks when the water spray dries out behind the decal & I might ask him for a replacement if its shite ...

Its getting there, Slowly...
The Plan is to use a combination of Nos & refurbished parts on this one... A few years ago on my first TRM i found a set of bars by a little known American department store brand called Hanter on eBay . They were 4130 Cromo & the welding was fantastic. I think they either were or became (Visage BMX) as they had some of the same Hutch & Redline (inspired) shall we say features on their Bikes...
The Hanter freestyle bars though were lovely & a friend of mine bought a nos chrome set about 6-8 months ago from the USA & put them on a build for a short time ....
Anyway here they are , Ive used VC-10's on trm's before also, I think the angular nature of the bars really compliment the frame & the welds are (Lush)...

Anyway these are what I'll be using unless i can find some Full sized Chrome Action Zone bars which is doubtful...

Anyway (for now) rain has stopped play on this build as I'm supposed to be moving house in a weeks time & I've got 16 years worth of stuff to work through throw away or pack along with of course all of my bike parts to wrap & pack safely for the move .
Anyway more build info from the other side when I'm there .....
