Right, ive come across a few interesting Landar bits recently and a spot of research has thrown up some interesting musings.
I think we all know that Landar were just importing Taiwanese parts and putting their own label on them but its come to my attention that some of these part aint half as bad as we would all think they are.
Ive got a landar chainring, nos in the bag that has super duralumin stamped on it. Yes the same super duralumin you see on Alun, SR etc that we all think are decent.
Next up are these pedals spotted ont museum. Obviously VP 747s but in a Landar box!

Turns out they went bankrupt in August 86!!! Surely the downturn in bmx hadnt begun then so cash flo or stock issues perhaps?
I know they were heavily stocked by one of the main distributors and no doubt there are plenty of us who were kept rolling by affordable Landar parts so anyone have any info on this?
-
i remember looking at a Landar crank years ago, i was surprised at the quality...like it was an SR or something...

I was only talking to Tony the other day about the idea of us doing a Landar build together using only parts made by the big L ... :daumenhoch:

Nice one Damo I knew there was another example I meant to add but my mind went blank starting the thread. Nice those Landar tubular cranks!

I’ve got one of those on my Curtis - I was after as many British parts as I could get & although they weren’t actually made in the UK I figured it was as close as I was going to get
Then out of the blue was given a NOS one by Rich Devilock

Was there an actual Landar team? Did they race?

Something like an MT Racing, Falcon Pro or Yes, would be my choice.

What's a Landar :D
-
Yep something akisu-ish, falcon etc would probably be the order of the day :daumenhoch:
Looks like they did an aero shaped landar fork too from what i can see in the poster. Never seen one though ???
-
My local bike store in the 80s use to stock Landar parts they sold them by the shed load.
Remember they had a big Landar poster in the shop window and behind the counter.
:)

Skyway TA would be a good base

I’ve had a couple of these in my time ... glossy plastic and nowhere near as durable as the OG Haro ones :daumenhoch:

I dunno Dan...I now see them as the TkMaxx of OSBMX! buying up decent end of line stuff and 'remarketing ' it... :-\

Defo the TKMaxx (TJMaxx if you’re from the U.S) of the os BMX world. Quality at an affordable price 👍

Love a bit of Landar.. Just picked this up for a rider .... Really want a stem pad as i had the fell set on my Zapper for a bit when i was a kid. & the padded foam numberplate..
I think Landar were pretty much the Same sort of outfit as (Team cycle) in the USA .
Basically a distribution company cherry picking lines from manufacturers in taiwan & having the products either directly branded on the products by the factories or just the packaging itself .....
Team cycle also had Viscount seats , Victor pedals & mx1000 copies etc with their own branding on...
I've also seen another brand on eBay in the usa in the past with the same grey blue yellow red striped Branding as Landar but using a a different brand name & the same font was used as well from memory...
