OK Dudes just got this Lush Mongoose Eric Rupe F+F form the states. Before the bike landed i was just going to build it up as a 85-86 Eric Rupe model ie change the decals. However the chrome is spot on and the Original decals are in great condition for there age so im not sure what to do now.
The Frame and Forks are a late 86 model backed up by the serial number, however the decals are for an 87 model. In 1987 the Eric Rupe was only availble in Frame and Forks and this bike is probs quiet rare as it is. However ive always wanted a Rupe ever since i got back into old school bmx and have always wanted the 85-86 bike.
So what am i gonna do fellas, please help :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :)
Here's some pics of the bike straight out of the box, i just need to clean it down and polish up and it should come out great :) :) :daumenhoch:

Yum yum - frame looks mintola Jimmy :smitten:
I can see your dilema but for me it would have to be the 85/86 decals - can't stand the 87 decals :buck2:
....plus it's an 86 stamped frame so that must have been right on the crossover of decal types - i'd go with how you originally wanted it to look IMHO :daumenhoch:
-
That's a lovely F&F.
I'm not a huge fan of the '87 decals- there a bit, 'erm, 1987. A real dilemma though as it would still be a shame to take 'em off in that condition.
My vote goes with putting on the earlier decal - but only just.
-
Keep em on Jimmy, i think they look super :daumenhoch:

Check out the blue Rupe in the Comp III advert
It's hard to tell but it looks like that padset might match the 87 decal logos as well
Be interesting to see if you could hunt down a better pic of that padset and get steve to knock you up a set - maybe in black :-\
I coming round a bit now - maybe you should stick with the original decals :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
-
What fookin bars are they that he's riding there ? ???
Certainly aren't pro-class  :-\
-
Rupe is also rolling with the spoke guard style back then 8) , where's JJ .........
-
85 - 86 rupe :smitten:

They look like GT Pro Bars :-\ :)
-
nice F&F
keep the original decals
they've survived all this time :daumenhoch:
-
I know you said your version came as an f/f set only but do you have any pics of him using it and how he had his set up?
I understand your dilemna but if you keep the original decals it sounds to me that it won't be the rupe you always wanted.
Keep this one as it is, find how he had his and build that. Then get another earlier one and follow the spec sheet :daumenhoch:

I can understand why you love the 85-86 so much. I know in 87 they stopped using the pro-class powerplate which to me is a quite unique thing to mongoose. Those tioga cd's aren't quite as easy on the eye. It looks on the picture of the 87 that eric may have stuck with the power plate in white, not quite sure can you make it out?

Eric used to run Profile cranks, so that will be a white Tioga chainwheel :daumenhoch:

Keep it as it is Jim...looks a peach :-*
-
I would keep them as is also...!!! Where did you find that one....? Love it.
The pads were made and are out there. I have a set in black and a set in gray....I can dig them out sooner or later. No need to have them made...they come up every now and then and aren't to pricey.

LOL...you know...those black grips are one of the hardest parts to locate for a Rupe or 24" Pro Class build...!!!
Luckily I have that set on my '85 Rupe and another NOS set stashed away. ;)
-
i had two sets and like a nut i sold em.
