polishing is a doddle. I've no idea why more of you don't give it a go. ???
Downside to polishing - that fookin black dust :tickedoff: its all over my feckin shed too :2gunsfiring_v1:
but any polished stem ends up with rounded edges it impossable to keep them sharp
but any polished stem ends up with rounded edges it impossable to keep them sharp
It depends on the machining / polishing methods used IMHO ... here's a brushed stem I did last year. No before pix I'm afraid but it was well beaten

And a deep H which had been defaced before I got it ... the original steps on the cap centre were smoothed out so I had to carefully bring them back too :daumenhoch:

Some mega work there Steve ;) , time & patience do indeed make a difference .
gotta say i've never yet seen one bad job steves done :4_17_5:.
just jealous i cant do the same lol :tickedoff:.
i tried to do the brushed look on a tuf neck stem and it looks likes its been ploughed with a tractor ;D
think they both done an equally good job there if i'm honest...
steve's resto work is faultless, but have to say, neils is also coming on strong..
proper passion for it, and a good way to fund your habit, buying stuff fooked, doing it up, having a fiddle, and the selling/trading it into more and/ or better stuff and doing it over again.
sensible really.
end results speak for themselves...i wish i had the apptitude and patience
well done lads :daumenhoch:

pointless post for the man with the £500 stem.
fooked off wiht this to be honest.
thing is JJ, as much as you play the fooking upstanding member, your no fooking better yourself.
i am referring to the 500 pound, yes, 500 fooking pound hutch stem you tried to sell on ebay...
giving neil shit for doing what he does? you should be fooking ashamed and embarassed for being such a small minded hypocrite.
crying shame, because 99% of the time your a stand up bloke with a love for BMX, but sometimes, you , and some of your high and mighty mates make for grim reading with your sniping comments and your bullying banter.
there you go.
have some of that :daumenhoch:
why does Neil get some people's back s up ? Honest answers please , doubt i'll get em . can't see hes doing owt wrong on here , tis great on here but since joining have noticed sometimes that if one person takes a disliking to someone others join in against that person with snidey comments , happened to me but i couldn't give two rats asses , neither should you Neil , just carry on mate :daumenhoch:
So i said, then she said, then he said.....like em very much thank you

how come all my threads turn out this way :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:
that would be stooges, you dipshit :D
I go through phases where i come on here , then don't get on so much. A couple of things that get me coming on more a lately have been To see what neil is getting up to now and how long it's going to take him this time. The other is to see the soap opera's that develop when he does do something.
Weather your a fan of what he does or not he has definitely contributed to making the site more interesting when he's on. Nice one neil can't wait until your next one :coolsmiley: :daumenhoch:
neil i still love ya mate, hopefully catch up with ya over the next week as discussed :daumenhoch:
Think your mistaking bullying with an opinion..
If I chip in, I explain why:
I didn’t like this stem because I don’t agree with grinding quarter inch off.
Didn’t like the Senior pro turning into a Turbo, or polishing dropouts wafer thin to rid them of washer marks.
Also sick of seeing endless pics of polishing mops :LolLolLolLol:

and funny as they have all posted on this thread.. ??? ???
£500 is alot for a stem     what about earning money from the community...thought it wasnt allowed! :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
stick to SR stems they are cheaper and keep the sly comments and remarks to yourselves. Best for the community. :) :)
James. :Great_Britain: :Great_Britain: :Great_Britain: :Great_Britain:
please can we just leave this now and wait for my new build coming out so the 3 stooges can rip it to bits :LolLolLolLol:

that's 4 neil ;D ;)
i guess neil will never win, he's right.
some people go down the purist route, with the brushed look. some dont.
some parts are too far gone to even remain in a survivor state....in some peoples minds.
i tend to look at items like neils stem and think, 'f'uck it the geezer has had a go at keeping this bitof history alive'
i've polished stems till my fingers bled....ive stripped em.... ive left them be...just depends on the mood or the build
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/tuffneck1.jpg)
ended up being this
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/restoredpro-1.jpg)
i've polished the fook out of hubs and rims
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/57694758.jpg)
polished the granny out of tuff necks
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/4ae9d3af.jpg)
even ones like neils that were hammered
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/DSCF0002.jpg)
and ones that wasnt
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/DSCF0058.jpg)
and left them well alone, survivor style
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/DSCF0009.jpg)
at the end end of the day, does it really matter....
its all opinions, and we know what theyre like.
neil....they are your bikes and parts...do what the fook you want with em...but if you polish anything, dont expect everyone to like it.
my opinion is, i like a little bit of bling....
Davros
tit
just as a foot note, whilst i have a photobucket window open......
and cheers dan....if you werent so fooking big you'd get a dry slap
