I'm not buying much now but that was cheap, it never moved in price at the end , its weird ebay nowadays you just don't know what stuffs going to fetch
-
Just sold my vdc and got a grand for it . I wouldn't buy another they are dog sh!t
-
Link?
-
That was a very good buy for a Changa Long.
is it Christmas round the corner or are prices finally coming down or both :-\ i've seen loads of nice stuff selling cheap (always happens when you got no funds)
-
Christmas surpresses prices. I have had some bargains at this time of year . I got a complete JMC shadow 1 year 4 £220 posted, but it did need a little work tho :D
-
couple of reasons why a lowish price
just before xmas
finished at 4.36pm when most are at work
-
A contender for bargain of the year. Yes, Ali Johnson is Jono on rad. Great buy Jono, nice one :4_17_5:
-
Has anybody got the link?
How much did it go for?
-
670 plus 20 quid postage

Cheers lads :daumenhoch:
Maybe a more realistic price, has the bubble really burst :-\
-
I think kalex made a valid point. The auction finished midweek, and not at an ideal time. I'm sure it would have gone higher if the auction had finished on a Sunday at 7pm. A limited market with these too I suppose. I would have loved it, but just haven't got that sort of spare cash around at the moment..
-
I was at home and watched it end.
I thought about putting a bid on it but wasn't 100% sure I wanted it at this moment in time.
-
Jono got ther bargain of the year . also bagged some
bars to go with the frame and forks. :daumenhoch:
-
I have some stickers if the winner needs them :coolsmiley:

Two threads this week, 2 high end bikes, 2 auctions, 1 buyer.
Well played Jono, but don't fall into the trap of buying the exotics that could be difficult to shift. I remember a Radster that used to frequent here a while ago that bought rarities and high end stuff, and struggled to move them on.
Just some advice for ya Ali. ;)
-
who's want a smelly changa?.... ::) ::) :-X

Who was that Dan and what was he having trouble shifting?

Kappy with his GJS etc. :daumenhoch:

Shouldn't worry about it, rad man brought bars for £200 sold em for £1300, brought forks for £50 sold em for £500, high end parts are always worth money to the right collectors.

That's because it was fooking horrendous, comedy bike of the year

Very true, hard to move if you need to sell quickly though. :daumenhoch:

It is a shame that some people buy just to move on at profit or think of it as a business.
It just kills the passion for me for what it really means to me. I'm glad I'm pulling the plug :daumenhoch:

Let's not turn this in to a f******g thread, I've met Ali a few times, it's not about the money with him.
I'm merely saying that rare, exotic, more specialist stuff will only get a handful of hardcore collectors that can afford this type of stuff. I love my bikes, but on my salary can only justify buying stuff I can afford, but I know that I could safely sell on most of my stuff within a few days, if I needed to. :daumenhoch:
-
Sometimes Dan, you read too much into the written word mate. No one is turning this into anything :idiot2:
-
I agree with Terry , it is sad some people buy only to sell on for inflated prices. it deffinately spoils the spirit of old school bmx , and as Peet says there is always someone someware who will pay big money for the right part. Im with Dan , ive met Jono a on several occassions and hes a top bloke, new to old school bmx and loves it . He landed a great score on the VDC frame and forks.he had to let go of something he wanted to keep to bag the matching bars. :-\
People will come and people will go , and for many different reasons. but lets try and keep threads posative and happy. :daumenhoch:
-
Lee was never ever in it for the quick make a profit, his collection was one of the best, it's just when he sold up people started offering him big money for stuff, the collector scene had moved on massively from when he started collecting and the prices he paid is what the going rate was. I know a rather large rounded Chumlee like fellow on here who has two changa's and he paid even less for his. Stuff goes up and down in price every week. So weeks we are lucky next not so. Tbh if you want something buy it, for yourself not for others, if it's expensive or cheap it's our choice
:daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

When's the group hug? :teef:
-
Can't we have the topic of people making money selling stuff as a sticky so we can refer to that (never) rather than reading it over and over again?
-
When's the group bumming session? :teef:

Fire me over your frame number when it comes and I'll get you on the register :daumenhoch:

Thread resurrection! As you all now know, Jono won this frameset on ebay, but something else he wanted came up at the same time. As he was concentrating on his freestylers, he sold the Changa to Terry (Wildon). A few months later, Terry decided to move it on. I bought the frameset from Terry in May last year. It needed some work to tidy up the dropouts, fill some pitting to the tubing, but the main job was repairing some pretty major pitting to the seat tube just above the bottom bracket. I'll do a full resto thread once it's all done, but here's a few photos...
The frame/forks when they arrived

frame is now back from a local welder, who did a fantastic job in tidying up the dropouts, building up the rear cable guide that had been partially filed away, and repairing some areas of pitting the top and downtubes

Looking great andy glad it went to someone willing to do the hard work I just put a sticker over it lol well done mate looking forward to seeing it finished
-
Thanks Jono. Absolutely chuffed to finally get it, and the extra work in getting it sorted has only made it more enjoyable. It was a great feeling to get it repaired by the man/company that made it 30 years ago. I have the emails and invoice from Voris, which i'll post up once the full restoration has been complted and the bike built :daumenhoch:

That's great Andy, top marks for getting it done properly by the man that made it in the first place. I really like the oddness of these vdc things but will never be able to afford one :yahoo_silent:

-
Wow! Thread and frame resurrection in one! One of my dream bikes bitd - can't wait to see this built-up!
-
great to see someone going to all the trouble of doing things the right way , i wouldnt have the patience to ship it off to voris to get a new seat tube , fair play to you !
cheeky question , what did he charge you for the repair ?
im a bit like jono "put a sticker over it" ;D
-
It's got to be a real contender for bike of the year when fully restored and built up all shiny and new !!
It's such a light frame too... Such a shame you remembered at the last minute about it and those bullseye cranks you nearly left at mine on Saturday ! :tickedoff: :LolLolLolLol:
I love your total dedication to perfection dude ...
-
Top work :4_17_5:
-
Great stuff Andy :4_17_5:
Will you ride it?
-
Yes, it will be ridden. Was hoping to have it done in time for the London ride, but don't think it will be. The frame was sent the chromers today. The bars and forks are already sorted

I think it was in the region of £150 to remove/replace the seat tube and repair some of the pitting to the tubing. Postage was £80 each way for a fully tracked/traced service (arrived within a week)
-
its great to see the patience and dedication that's gone into this frame set Andy .. its not about the money its about old school bmx . top bloke :4_17_5:
