Nice dude. It's always nice to see parts spread out everywhere  :LolLolLolLol:

I made some progress.

The Hope gear is on, and I got the front brake dialled TF. Need to be careful, I can see pulling it too hard resulting in a visit to A&E tbh.

Super thread to create good traffic!
I really need to get this pad set together for my Hot Heart, I have had them for a while now. Most of the poppers are crumbly, some are missing.

Last week I grabbed a Weinmann brake for a tenner. It had a lovely Weinmann semi auto adjuster on it, the freestyle one. That is now sitting pretty on my white Star Way Freemaster. Result.

Road brake possibly. Talking of which, my bike now has a rear one. Only I am still waiting for the pad droppers  :LolLolLolLol:

I also replaced the white KNC Superlight chain ( they are about 50 quid) with a Shimano. It doesn't weigh any more, because it's a narrow chain. I will get a better looking one mind, but for now it's not as garish.

It's been an odd bike this. SE obviously have their roots in BMX, but they used lots of BMX type parts which is odd. Like the fork? jesus, it weighed a ton. Imagine a set of cro mo Landing Gear, only about 8" longer. Meaning they weigh an F ton. Then there were the cranks. 4130 19 spline on solid axles. Christ, not what you put on a road bike. Then because of that they used a BMX spider and chain ring, meaning the chain needs to be wider too. I hope if they ever relaunch it they put proper road bike parts on it, given that is what it is.

Currently trying to strip paint off an 85 GT Pro to put it back to an original colour. Synstrip not touching it so looking like a lot of elbow grease. Tried uploading photo but won't let me.

Yeah you may as well rub cum on it tbh.

I would link you to the stuff I have used, but it seems it's now banned. Harumph.

OK. That was a nightmare. Even with the pad extensions on they still didn't reach. Tried a BMX brake (crap one I had) and it was too long. I ended up drilling the top hole lower down. Then I had to open up the back side (and messed it up a bit). Then when it did line up the pad frames were jamming against the frame. So I ground those at an angle with the belt file. They then went into the frame, and I could dial the brake.

There is a problem though. Whilst it works I am not about to ride it and put any serious pressure on it. This is why.

The lip of that lug should not be inside the frame. So, I ordered some 8mm washers.

But of course then that internal nut won't reach /roll eyes. So I bought a 5mm longer Ti one.

23 I ordered. The brake does now work extremely well.

But yeah, no likey how that is. Easy fix once the parts come in. The new pedals arrived too. Absolutely perfect.

I haven't touched my Specialized 415 Pro since I got it. I haven't even wiped it down. I have been out on it a few times though. During these short rides I noticed a loose metal clanking sound coming from the bottom bracket. So after another ride today I thought let's have a look. It turns out that the drive side crank arm needed nipping up. I suspect the sound could have been the spacing sleeve rotating on the spindle because there wasn't enough load on it. Who knows, the sound has now disappeared and this heavyweight tank rides really smoothly.

Fork leg decals. They are stupid wide because I don't know the size needed yet. Much easier to draw them stupid big then adjust down.

Will be printed on gold, Allah willing  :LolLolLolLol: (I've been watching too many documentaries).

Just the seat tube one to go now.

Fix the race bike. It doesn't look any different (apart from the chrome bolts in the chain ring, the purple were single gear). Fitted a wider BB, so the crank arms don't hit, and spaced the chain ring in 5mm to offset this. The big difference is it now works  :LolLolLolLol:

Put Kink back together and fit brake. This was after taking the front end off to get it through the hole. Take off T1 tyres and put on the Paths I degreased (and sorted) a few weeks ago.

Then crack out the T1. Fit Animal tyres.

Then sit and drool for a while.

Well I got them on. Problem is the bolts did not fit. Still scratching my head over that one. Can  only imagine now that the axle is a prototype, and not the same as the one listed. Need to design a Wedgie Jackson type affair, but they are fine for now.

Took grips and lever off the Kink. Replaced with some green Sunday grips I have had for years. They look OK IMO ! go with the green in the decals.

Put them away.

Leaving one slot open for this. Which has also been taken apart, dragged up a ladder and then put back together  :LolLolLolLol:

Bloody bikes !!

When I built the Fatboy up something wasn't right. The chain was grabbing the chain ring and popping. So I took it off last night and had a look. It seems it's a thick thin. Which is designed for mountain bikes. So on a BMX it's really not good.

Will have to get another one soon. Want to change the tyres too. Don't like those at all.

Got this done yesterday. I fitted the free hub guard I got.

Given I can't drill out the other Gsport peg I fitted a set of plastic ones.

Then dug out a lever and fitted that. Quick Stop II IIRC. I then swapped the United stem on it with the Kink one that was on the Root Down. That will be coming out and stripped down at some point later in the year.

Very happy.

Got plans now to take a couple of killer parts and get them onto my Metal.

Stoked. Ready for holiday !

Am really looking forward to getting back and putting a new front end on. I wouldn't say I skimped on the fork being a Primo Balance, but it was on sale for about 80 quid IIRC and there were much higher end ones around. That said I suppose everything happens for a reason, because I have a set that would have cost about 180.

Demolition Concorde. I also have these, Volume Mad Dog (same company).

Which are also top deck. About a hundred quid, IIRC. I only paid like 45 for them. Will get both powdered RAL 3005 to match the Metal, or, go for a bright red finish on those. Will decide on holiday haha.

A few hours ago I dragged out a build I finished 4 years ago, my Total Hangover 2. I pulled the bars back so they are more or less inline with the forks. Adjusted the back wheel position so the chain was a little slacker. Then I hooked up and adjusted the brake for the first time. Then dusted it all down and made a cuppa.
Title: Re: I am currently working on (shorts)
Post by: Midschoolfool on October 02, 2022, 07:14 PM
Yeah that is how you want bars, unless you are good at nose wheelies. Then having them a little more forward helps.

I've spent all day hunting for a bolt. I found a drill in cable stop, but not the M4 countersunk bolt they come with. And it's needle in a haystack shit. I did find some countersunk bolts that are slightly longer but not too long. Need to vernier them to see what size they are.

What I did find was some awesome brake pads. All new. So I have a choice of Kool Stop Eagle II, Clark's red and black (high end ones) or Ghost pads. I will probably rock the ghost pads tbh. They are really bloody easy to set up and stop well.

I hate it when the hardware has gone missing when you pull a part out. You'll find it later on when you have done a workaround. It's nice to find a little stash and have a choice without spending a penny  :daumenhoch:

Sano detangler, gyro plate, gyro tabs, upper and lower cables and a shorter spacer installed. Adjusted up and dialed in pretty good. I thought I?d be happy with that but I've seen another saddle and grips I want to put on, then it's finished, until I see some better cranks and wheels to add.

An awesome set of wheels arrived yesterday. I already had the tyres and rim tape, then earlier today the inner tubes arrived so I got busy. These are going on my Carraro cruiser and will look the biz. Not my first choice of tyre but I did not want to pay a ton for some cheap 24 inch comp III's from the states. I think these look pretty cool now they are mounted. Just a touch of soapy water and these babies popped right into place.

Got the builders in. IE, fookin me.

First thing I did was a few days back. Make the flat CAT 6 wired.

I wonder if when I move out they realise all of those sockets were not there before  :LolLolLolLol:

Next job is cinema rig upgrade. Well, more of a "make it better". One thing that irked me was having the Linn Centrik centre on the floor. No matter how much I play with the settings it still sounds just like it is coming from the floor.

The biggest issue was the fact I wanted a 75" TV in a room that has exactly 1" clearance on the angled roof. So I can not put a centre speaker below the TV. My original idea was to buy a Revel unit, here.

OK so this is what it actually looks like.

Two mid drivers angled, a 7.8" wide square sub (with 6.5" of woofer surface area) and a positional tweeter. I was then going to modify/hack up the TV stand and put it in the front after emptying all of the drawers the other day.

But alas I could not bring myself to destroy a OFL cabinet. That cost a fortune new. So I decided to buy a replacement and hack that up instead. Problem was

1. Getting "rid" of the old one without even trying to take it down several flights of stairs (not happening even hercules would struggle with a 40kg cabinet)
2. My kitchen looks like this.

So I decided to get rid of the chairs that have never had an arse in them and replace.

Much better. I now have storage for PC crap.

And two tubs worth of electronics tools.

Next up was finding a cabinet. Frank Olsen.

Am going to cut the middle door for the speaker and fix it closed. And then..... After hours of heavy lugging  :LolLolLolLol:

New one comes Monday. Bedroom got the freebies upgrade too. Just need to wire in the sub.

Progress on the Hellcat has been slow. It is now looking more like a bike. American to mid bb adapters, bb, crank, sprocket, pedals and half link chain fitted over the last few days. Gyro set up, stem, bars, levers, brakes, post, clamp and seat have been on a while. The wheels have been on for a week or so. I am not sure about the grips I bought for this build (Primo Brian Wizmerski signature Wiz grips in white), so I'm still looking, probably going with black. On the home straight with this one though.

So, last week I remembered that I had an early 80's lugged Apollo stripped down and gathering dust in the garage. I dug it out and fell in love all over again. I have ordered a nice period saddle because I am putting her back together. The Tange forks had been sprayed but I knew the original paint was underneath. After work today I slowly started stripping off the spray job to reveal the ugly truth. I was hoping there was a little more of the original paint there though. I could not have lived with the mismatched spray job but this is one job I wish I had never started. What was I thinking

A lot. A bloody lot.

My project is almost complete.

If you were wondering what it actually is? it's a PC. There are two boxes to it. One is filled with radiators, a pump, reservoir and fans and the other (the one I made from scratch) houses the hardware. They are connected by a coolant hose.

I literally have to do about 3 hours work when the resistors I am waiting for to arrive and then it's done. I have about 200 hours of machining time into it, as well as painting and etc.

I have also been working on the AV setup. I bought these on sale recently.

And they came with ?380 worth of free cables.

So I had to upgrade the stands I have on the inside of the front array to have spikes and standoffs for isolation.

Which I completed the last time I was there. In order to change out the speaker cables I had to take the whole rack apart and remove every amp above the one I wanted to access.

But am pretty much ready. The only other job left to do was sort out the horn tweeter in the centre array. When I bought it it was black and had far too many mounting holes in. So, I chopped it in as can be seen in the pic above. I then removed it, and filled all of the mounting holes but four.

Because the main centre speaker is an enclosed unit. So there is no pressure in the cabinet. I sanded that out today, and it needs painting white with some paint I have ordered before being rebuilt with the compression driver and remounted.

Bought a new kettle and toaster and set those up.

So yeah, just winter things. I did work on bikes in the cold last year, but I am getting too old for that now. Especially with arthritis. Screw that.

My dual pull lever arrived today. If you don't know what I mean I mean this.

Problem is it was kinda huge. After looking at it I realised it was just a V brake lever someone had made parts for and ghettoed together. So, I decided to do a bit of that myself. Firstly for a lever I had this in the loft. It came with the 1999 I got for next to nothing, and was NOS.

What I didn't know was where the cable went into it. If it went in before the body? it would work. If it went in at the end (inside) it would not. Turns out it was before the body.

I then removed the stop and got rid of that nasty stuck flat head screwdriver bolt. I then removed the lever nut and bolt from the huge bitch and counter sunk the stop.

Much better. I may drill and tap some barrel adjusters at build time, but that will be very easy.

Got a Ti axle and bolts for them too. I almost put them up for sale, then realised the Fat Boy had issues. The fat skinny chain ring on it was holding the chain. Good for a crappy MTB, not good on a BMX. It was popping and etc. Bad basically. So my immediate thought was "Put them on that". But then I realised I don't have a BB cup set or a 22mm Euro BB. What I did have was a 19mm euro BB and the cups were already in it. No brainer, took the Profile down from the nail they were hanging on and.

The red Primos were then deffo going up for sale. But, then I realised the Dirt Bike NG would really like a better crank set, and it already has US cups and 19mm bearings. So, all I need to do is buy a 12 quid 22mm bb and on it can go.

So, to celebrate I picked the bogey off the rafters and removed those nasty Animal clown shoe tyres.

Foogin love it. It also makes the front wheel not trigger my OCD any more having the polished lip.

Another one sorted.

Just before dinner tonight I fitted a gorgeous Takagi bb, mongoose opc and Sugino 40t snowflake to my minigoose. I had to search the garage for the opc because I had a recent tidy up and forgot where I put it. I now have the same issue with the original brakes that came with the frame set, I'll hunt for them tomorrow evening or over the weekend, wish me luck because I have already had one attempt during my recent tidy up.

ok, you spiked my interest Toby: "goose", "snowflake", "mongoose opc". Have I missed something. I went off looking for a thread, but not seeing anything my friend, even read through all three pages of this thread. Come on my friend, share more , lol.

Hello Pete, so just under two years ago I snagged a tidy late 1984 minigoose frame set with short reach Lee chi brakes and mongoose headset. It was located in France, I scored the mongoose crank from the same seller a week later. It's been half built up and stripped down a few times to make room for other builds. I thought it was time I showed it some love. This will be the wife's ride if she wants it. The current spec and progress is >

OG Mongoose headset
Nos 2 piece chrome bars from bankrupt bike parts
Used Chang Star levers
Nos Landar cobra grips
Used Nitto mx5 stem
Used San Marco saddle
New Nitto seat post
Used SR seat clamp
Nos Mitsuboshi comp III's
Nos Panaracer tubes
Used Ukai 20x 1 3/8 rims
Nos Asahi spokes
Used Suzue hubs
Nos Takagi bb
Used Mongoose crank
Nos Sugino 40t snowflake from bankrupt bike parts
Used SR SP468 pedals
I need to find the calipers, cables and blocks, freewheel and chain all hiding in the garage. I didn't get around to starting a build thread but it should be finished soon and shared on here.

Thanks for your curiosity  fistblump

Little goose update  :LolLolLolLol:

Excuse the grubby floor, I need to mop it when the bike has been moved back into the cave.
So, I've found the short reach calipers at last  explosion
I needed yet another tidy up to accommodate some parts, I found the calipers amongst my mid and new school boxes, why they were there I do not know. Anyway, they are now on the goose so I'm ready for the final push on the build.

Whilst I was at it I fitted some red Panaracers to a gorgeous blue wheel set (more about those on an upcoming build thread) just to save a little more space until the bike is ready for them.

I wasn't so lucky. Mine were a bitch to get on those fat ass rims. Still, on they went. The tubes I bought were also not 1.75 either. I bought them as that, but they are clearly labelled 2.25. So they were also a bitch.

Still, I will take it.

BTW tobe I can confirm the laminated ones will stick. I did a KHE spanner decal earlier, and had to laminate it because cables will run across it. The adhesive on the brushed stuff is very strong, and it held with no problems.

Yeah good call. They are beyond strong, so if you catch the fork on something moving it around or riding it they will hold up to anything.

You decided on bars yet?

Shit I missed due to busy-ness.

So I bought this absolutely pristine Profile Acoustic stem in green (beyond rare) from around 2007. I did this so I could rob the Demolition stem for the Four.

And fitted it. Along with some very odd coloured S&M pedals.

They're like apple green or something. Was a bit pissed at first, but they are growing on me now. The stem on the other hand?

 explosion

Matches the Proper brake perfectly.

Bars, I was thinking of buying some rotten painted bars and rawing them. The forks are chrome though, scuffed and marked but solid, so I was thinking about using the bars that came on the Sjappi I bought. I thought I?d moved them on but I found them during my tidy up. They are chrome and a decent size. Probably a bit early for the bike but I have them ready to go.

Exactly, I think it will work out ok. I never got a 100 percent nailed ID on the forks pictured. Nick B thought they could be Bully, who knows.

Oh my god.

So yesterday I got some bike scales. Weighed the PKR. 17.9lb. It's absolutely amazing how technology makes my big ass road bike weigh less than any 20 I have ever seen.

Thing is I thought there would be absolutely no way to make it even lighter. I mean serious, I've achieved some shit in my life but I don't think I could possibly...... I was wrong  :LolLolLolLol:

I forgot I had some cheap ass Shimano solid chain on it, and I had this in my bedroom under a pile of paperwork.

So earlier I fitted that. I then stood back and admired my work.

Man, she is stunning. So then my brain starts whirring and I look very closely at the bike. Now I *thought* I had a Kooka BB on there with ceramic bearings. Then I remembered I removed it, and broke it playing around with an idea I had. Boooo :(

Upon realising I had a very cheap, and very heavy BB on there I started doing some research... Within about ten minutes I had my answer. FSA Platinum Pro Mega Titanium BB. The problem? A HUNDRED POUNDS. *digs for a while* "hmm, I see ISIS is out of fashion.... *digs for a bit longer* 25 quid. *sends a offer of 20 quid, offer accepted*  :LolLolLolLol:

So basically I do not think it is possible to get it down to 17lb or less. I mean really, at this point I am taking the piss. However, the new chain weighs F all and so will that BB.

What amazes me is that my patience has paid off so much on this bike. 55 quid for the rear wheel, rebuilt the hub with 8 quid's worth of parts. 40 quid for the fork, cost me about 2 quid in clear coat. 40 quid for the SLK forged carbon cranks, and so on. NONE of it has cost me anything at all.

Oh and yeah, talk about happy accidents  :LolLolLolLol:

Two cable ties = TUNEZ.
Title: Re: I am currently working on (shorts)
Post by: Midschoolfool on June 27, 2023, 04:48 PM
Nope ! still wrong  :LolLolLolLol:

The front wheel does not come with a skewer included. Those? were from axles I bought for the parts to repair the rear wheel. It was cheaper to buy a full set of hubs with skewers than to buy one axle from Shimano.

As such I bought a Ti skewer.

I also want to get alloy wheel nuts for the rear wheel. Now somewhere I have a set of those, in red, from the mag wheels I had on it.

A few weeks ago I bought a pair of Free agent levers from the guy I bought the Hellcat frame set off. Im sure these are what was on the bars originally. As they are not hinged I had to remove the grips off of the bars to do the swap out. The white Wiz grips are grubby and I've only rode the bike once, so I'm deciding which grips to put back on. The Odyssey quick stops will be used on a tidier build in the future.

Fancied something different. Bikes getting a bit much.

So I have a Tag Mclaren AV rig. Surround processor pre amp DAC with lots of amps.

Really is my pride and joy. I bought a CD player for it last year (cambridge thing) but it just looked shit. I mean it would tbh. So I have wanted a Tag Mclaren CD transport for ages. Note transport, as it has no RCA out just a digital connection for the processor (DAC) to make it work.

Problem is they are 350 quid. And for the amount of listening time I would give CDs? no worth 350 quid  :LolLolLolLol: I mean when you consider the transports were 1500 quid and up 20 years ago it doesn't sound that bad but aye, not paying that.

Then the other week I spotted this. Now do note, they did do all this gear in silver too, but this ain't supposed to be silver.

Someone literally spray bombed a 1500 pound CD transport  Badly !

He had it up for 55. "Doesn't read CDs". Ok fair enough, the lazer has probably gone. Did a bit of digging, the entire mech is 12 quid (it's a Philips VAM unit) or 8 quid for just the lazer assembly. I almost bought a lazer assembly, but I had a feeling so I left it until it arrived. I paid 45 quid BTW, and it was a total shot in the dark. I knew if someone had painted it like that then it will be bad. I wasn't wrong either. It arrived, I picked it up and something was rattling around in it. Turns out the lazer mech had snapped out of the carrier, and it was broken. OK deep breath, I will get the assembly for 12 quid. I then stripped it and set to work.

Round one. It had three more after that. Three tiny scratches in the black anno, and there was still some silver paint on it in that pic. It needed two more rounds of isoprop to remove it all.

Round two. Round three.

Round 4 touch up paint.

Now I just have to wait on the new lazer assembly.

Nothing spectacular, I bought a decent Weinmann Tech 2 lever without the clasp. Took a clasp off of a straight Weinmann lever, and an adjusting bolt and spring from an old Formos lever I had in the parts crate. Quick polish and wire brush on the bolt and spring and it looks pretty good. You don't see too many Weinmann Tech 2's so I thought why not.

Poorly. I knew there was a high chance it would never work. I bought a new laser and sure enough, it didn't fix it. So I began the enormous ball ache to turn it into a computer that streams music, videos and can play DVDs (region 1, all mine are R1).

So that's why no bikes, and no me. It has been a lot harder than I anticipated  :LolLolLolLol:

Here it is after three weeks of work. Believe me to get it to this stage was a feggin nightmare.

Today I managed to get a very stubborn Suntour freewheel off of an OGK mag. I then stripped and cleaned both wheels and the hardware. I was going to do a sealed bearing upgrade but there was no need as the races and cones were nice and clean. I popped some new bearings in and then reassembled them. The OGK's still look like shit but run really sweet now, this was the plan as they are destined to go on a fairly rough but very charming lugged Apollo (80 or 81) project.

Tomorrow I will strip, clean and reassemble the freewheel. That's a job I really enjoy 👍🏼

I'm not even going to bother to try to upload any pics  fistblump

I made myself a late coffee and fitted a Duro fat thin combo onto the OGK's. They are gumwall and black, the seat and grips are black so I thought I should match them up. I want an all Japanese build so if some used tyres that fit the bill show up I'll try to bag them.

Ze ripper.

I took her on holiday. I will post a ton of pics of that soon, when I can find more than 2 effing minutes. Any way, I was a bit sad I never got to fit this.

If you are wondering what it is? it's a (wait for it) FSA Platinum Quad Mega. I know, a mouthful. What it equates to is a Ti ISIS bottom bracket with ceramic bearings. I paid around 23 quid for it, which I thought was amazing. Esp given they were around 350 new.

So it arrived. I then realised it had no bolts. I then found out the bolts were not available any more. I knew not to waste any money, as I have several sets in all sorts of sizes and none of them fit. Not even the 14mm ones, which this is supposed to be. I had exactly the same issue last year with some Shadow Noctis cranks (prototypes, even the Noctis bolts did not work).

So in a pissy fit I threw it in a baggy and tossed it in the tool box. Well when I got back from holiday I found it again. Only this time? I had a huge piece of luck. See, FSA are a bunch of clunges and like every other greedy ass company they do not tell you the thread pitch. So you have no idea. Well in said tool box was a male BMX axle I took out of a wheel for the Pork, and it threaded straight in. A long time later I found out that a 14mm BMX axle is 14 super fine. Or, 14mm with a 1mm pitch. This is absolutely unheard of, and I would surmise why FSA decided to use it. Because if you lose or strip your bolts? you're f-ed and you have to go to them and pay 30 quid. Problem is, like all selfish shuffle munsterers, when they stop selling them they also stop selling the parts.

So with that mystery solved I knocked this up.

My mate can not make hex ends or allen holes. So it needs to be made in two pieces. Teh threaded insert will go into the Ti axle and be locked in with JB weld. At which point I will use the M8 titanium bolts I bought from a company that went out of business for 3 quid. That is what the shoulders are for.

These parts will be 7000 alu, as it would be dumb to make the BB end up weighing as much as the one it is replacing.

I dragged out the lugged Apollo frame and forks tonight. The headset was already fitted, greased, with the forks in place. So the OGK's were fitted, along with the Takahashi Panmax saddle and the og post, Alps stem and Nitto bars. I mocked up a Shimano Tourney rear brake and pre bent lever. I might go with those, not sure yet.

I have just finished the Oven Pride treatment on a red Shimano pre bent lever and clasp. Followed with a light polish so it matches the brake it's being paired with. Both are now fitted on the Apollo. Black DC BRS cable ordered tonight.

Earlier today I stripped down, cleaned, greased and reassembled a pair of SR SP-452 pedals I picked up cheap on eBay about a week ago. Both are now spinning sweetly. I didn't go mad on the clean or polish these, I didn't want them too blingy. They should compliment the Apollo build nicely.

Got up in the loft for the first time in an even longer time (last two were built down here) and sorted out a lot of shit. Found a superb way to create my film set (more info soon) and managed to make more space to get the whole collection up there.

Changed the sprocket on the Barcode to the green one I bought, then fitted the red Primos with the Ti axle to the Fatboy with the 36t Profile Imperial. No pics, as I was just too busy. The Fatboy still needs a chain, then I can crack on with the building work.

Getting pissed at my own stupidity/frustrating ways to show sizes/pissing my mate around making useless parts.

So I needed one of these for my brake. And I ain't fookin paying that for 2p worth of metal ffs.

This was the pic sent. I IDed the height properly but this confused me enough into thinking it was 40mm wide. Hint, it isn't it's 45.

So I sent erroneous measurements to my mate who then modelled it (came up wrong size, seems it was a common theme)

From my SVG. Sadly before I realised my error it was too late and the poor sod had already made two.

IE, instead of having a square pole piece on the plastic to sit in a cutout on the plate and one screw I am going to, you know? just use two screws in the first place. Can easily machine that, and the cable relief strip down the underside middle.

OK so blunder averted somewhat. My mate is going to make me another. Phew.

Another engineer pal of mine pointed out that the block is not acrylic. And that acrylic would most likely shatter  :LolLolLolLol:

So after IDing what is was (Delrin nylon) I bought the correct shit eh.

Must say it totally looks like a match to be fair.

OK so after spending my birthday gaming with my mates yesterday (I was 50 FFS) I decided to have a look at it.

Aaaaaand, it was broken ffs.

The arms were floppy, and should be under tension and sprung. So OK maybe he did that to stop it ruining the springs etc. Tension it up and it bound up both sides. Like, totally.

Here we go.

Now thankfully I have a lot of experience, and soon identified that the locking cones (the bits similar to the top of a 990) were a tiny bit worn inside (like literally a mil or two) and needed to stop before they lock the arms up.

So here is how it goes.

Take one arm off at a time.

Grease the bottom of the plate. Add teflon washer, grease top of teflon washer. Add second teflon washer, grease top of it. Add arm. Add grease, teflon washer. Grease the top of that one and add the last teflon washer (two under two over). Grease top of that, add spring. Grease the top end of the post, add metal washer. Grease that washer, add second washer. Then add cone, put thread lock on the bolt and tension it all up just like any other U brake.

And you will eventually end up with a pitbull that does what it is supposed to do.

Winning.

Two at the correct size of 45mm, and the ISIS adapter shoulders and inserts for the ti BB.

And my Pitbull now has jaws.

Will fire the CNC up later and machine the teflon block.

Thanks man.

Well it turned out the acetal nylon sheet is not cast but extruded. That means.....

melty melty  :LolLolLolLol:

The first 1.4mm bit snapped and then that happened with a 3mm bit. It isn't removing it, just melting it, so I need to cut it manually.

I will dig out my hacksaw in a bit and crack on with that.

Mang this stuff is an absolute shit head to work with. It melts when you get it even remotely warm, and it's so sodding slippery its a shit bag to cut manually  :LolLolLolLol:

I do now have a block, but this has all thrown up an issue I never knew I had. Why in the fudge does the spindle motor on my machine refuse to run any slower? Just did some investigating and it seems no matter what I set the speed to it's not having it. It's either all on (20,000 RPM ffs) or off.

Back to the loft. Floor construction now finished, but I could murder my cousin. Entire sub floor was pissed, so that turned into a real pain.

I then grew tired of losing 3mm drill bits down the gaps, so when the back floor (against the wall) was finished I taped off all the gaps.

Next up, lino planks (self adhesive ones). Should be much easier than that building shit, that's for sure !

Main floor is all but done. Two pieces left to fit, but I tapped out having to continually move crap around.

Figuring what I need to make the new bike look good. I think it is time for the orange to go. So new grips needed, new head spacers, new head doctor top cap. Bearings should all be good. Cane Creek headset on it, so all good there.

Need a new seat post (it's massive on the new one, 31.6!) and clamp. Will replace the crank bolts with red ones too... Oh and brake cables etc.

I also need to find the best one of these things.

As the frame has single place drops. Not a huge issue, been watching videos on setting them up. I also took the Ti BB apart as much as I dared and gave it a ruddy good clean.

Looking forward to this build. Always nice to work on the biggun.

After 7 years and many very happy miles the last part of the PK is going. Good thing I kept all the others really  :LolLolLolLol:

Very limited tools here. I pulled the seat and brake cables off.

Bars are off now too, but the stem bolts won't budge with the stupid driver I have. Need to go get more tools. Was relieved that the best part of the Jagwire cables comes off (the stainless flexi noodles that go into the levers)

All orange parts are going to be replaced with red and black.

Enter Mondays Child, all 3.11lb of pure titanium PORN.

I figured I would try and thread in the Ti BB, and then realised I had been ripped off.

Me about a year ago "Hi. Are you sure this is British threaded? I see they make them in British (euro) and Italian?"

Seller - "No mate definitely euro, I had it on my bike".

Fockin liar. When I verniered the threads they are well over 36mm, not 34 or so. Thankfully I found a thread where a guy detailed rebuilding an ISIS BB and got the bearing sizes from a normal Euro one.

Noting the 31mm part. I also checked ISIS bearings online. Also 31mm.

The ones on the left. I then removed the longer side of the BB (not easy, needing a bit of twatting that) and,

Bearings are 31mm. Thank god. That means I can grab one of the many at my mum's and nick the end shells with the threads on. Phew.
