Can some confirm the year Frame number T3F1130 also is this off white/Cream colour a standard colour or was it just a base for spraying?

Spot on mate :daumenhoch:
It will build into a nice bike as a HH 8)

Whats the story with these. I know the ET Kuwahara connection and obviously Tange, but is there a story behind the heart in the gusset. Maybe some kind of death dual over a woman??

There's been a good bit of chat about these recently over on BW, I'll get the links posted once it's back up online :daumenhoch:
From what I've read over there, these were bought in bulk as bankrupt stock by a reputable wholesaler up North somewhere but for some reason sat in storage for a long time.
The business changed hands from Father to Son who rediscovered them and sold them all on for peanuts to a local bike shop...
When they first came to light it all seemed a bit sus because all Hot Hearts seemed to be Chromed and full Cr-Mo.
These however are made in the exact same way as the Kuwie ET with a Hi-Ten Steel back end (Tri-Moly).
I wouldn't be suprised if these were made on the same jigs as the Kuwie ET frames and that paint could even be the same white 8)
I'd be keeping the paint as it is unless it was just a base coat ???
Tange would make frames to specific customer specifications so, for me it's completely possible that these were done as a cheaper manufacturing option.
A couple of lads on BW have these. It'll be interesting to compare the serial stamps ;)
Anyway, hope that helps for now :daumenhoch:

Surely they were made on the same jigs. The difference as far as i can see is the gusset, otherwise they look like quality looptail frames like the ET Model. Did they use looptails in the movie?
-
Thank you Monkian
I did get this from a bloke who runs a bike store who said they were old stock that they used to have back in the 80's and the warehouse where they were kept caught fire and most of the frames were no good so got scraped but a few get kept and now they have been rediscovered, i was a tad sus about these frames until another member bought one and it looked like a real HH. Anyway im very happy with it.
I would love to keep it the same colour but there are some chips and marks :( still i just might live with them.
When you can find more info that would be great.

that yellowy/grey colour is just a base coat, straight out the factory......
mine went straight off to superbikedan ;)

Nice
The only other bike Id love to spend time building if I could get my hands on one! Had one as a kid.. cant even remember what happened to it! (maybe swapped it for a Master System game) (Same colour and everything!) :P
Keep it OG! ;)

its not even a proper layer of paint, its very very thin and doesn't even cover the whole frame (mine didn't anyway.....)

If I recall correctly, the Kuwahara ET has different dimensions than the Tange HH. Isn't the seat post tube lower on the ET? Surely one of the ET experts will chime in.
-
Yeah the paint is a bit thin in places but if i was going to spray i would prob go for a cream/white colour anyway so i might just build it up and see what it comes out like.

If the paint is chipping and you want to restore to original, try and get a piece around 10mm long and send it to me, I will send it of and get an exact match for you :daumenhoch:

Now you mention it, I have a vague memory of someone mentioning a slight difference in the geometry or something.
I guess that could have been in a comparison against a full Cr-Mo Hot Heart but it would be good to know for sure :)

The wholesaler in question was Ron Kitching in Harrogate, their warehouse burnt down many years ago.
There are some significant manufacturing differences between these and the Tange made Kuwahara frames, most notably the quality of welding of the rear tiangle. Tange would pre-fab front and rear ends and supply "kits" to other companies to finish the process locally, back in the 80's it was a good way of avoiding high import duties on finished products. The lower quality rear end suggests that these have and the fact they have not been chromed or painted were probably the same build process, kits finished elsewhere and not in the Tange factory.
-
To my eye's the back end of ET's look pretty similar in terms of quality (some pics in the 1st BW link) ???
I also wonder if Tange would have sent out stamped BB's if not at least part of the frame was built by them?
Tube kits would have been suppield to other companies though so who knows
