Okay so I'm doing an 84 freestyle type build..
I'm definitely fitting a flex fighter but..
What are your thoughts on having locknuts as well?
Anybody run both bitd?
Thanks Ant
( and no it's not a Haro build! Lol )

That's nasty!
Hell Yeah ! :D :LolLolLolLol:.. But you never know what people ran bitd Nick!
... And it's freestyle .. I'm guessing you're gonna hate my next build ! :nickswan: ::) ;)

I do have the odd freestyler myself I'll have you know!

Fit a beartrap headset, no need for an additional locknut, job done.

You're much more practical than me Andy.. :4_17_5: I just like adding extra bits on my builds ... But only if they look good and are era correct ...
I knew this would get people's opinions going!
Is there anybody who likes it? ...

Running a stem that high is dangerous, there's hardly any of the quill in the fork!
The quill of the stem helps to stiffen the fork as well, s&m made a longer wedge, to help strengthen the fork.
If you want a high rise use an ESP , the quill is about 1" longer than average.
Or just fit 10" rise GT bars.
-
I love Tange locknuts, got them on all my bikes, and every bike I've built, I also like Flex Fighters, but only the 1" ones, although I've never fitted one. I do think that, that set up that you've shown is a bit too much IMO.
-
Yeah it's got to be too much .. Agreed ... I was just trying to sneak a Tange locknut on there as well as like you Dan I love 'em!
Was just checking if it was era correct or if s few people actually ran them back in the day :daumenhoch:

So what about this set up ?
Hutch locknut/flex fighter combo!
-
I think that's too much aswell just doesn't look right to me.

I think Mike Pardon ran one of these on his TAP with a Suntour power stem ...
I think it works ( ... A little better than the other setups .. Just )
-
A 2 in 1 would be ok, one of the lower rise ones, DK would be my choice
-
As I expected ( and thank god ! ) The headset lock is going and I'm just going to use the flex fighter.. It'll look way sweeter :daumenhoch:
-
When mounted on a 125 or even something like an aw27 the lp440 locknut looks sweet. If you put them on anything with a nut looking bit that's integrated on the top race they stand too proud and don't look right. The tange aw27 has atop race like this so the lock nut doesn't make it stand proud it looks like it's designed to go with it & looks sweet, you might even get away with the flex fighter looking a bit better with it.
To me your limited with headset choice if you want a lock nut on and it look right.

I've got a hatta mx100 so I'm thinking flex fighter only ... Otherwise it's an unholy mess! :crazy2:

Glynn's take on it is how I should have explained my post, all mine are AW27's, MX2's or Nikyo's, all of which will allow you to use the Tange as they have an independent retaining nut - I've got a bloody box full of them. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Any good to you Ant? Lock nut and flex fighter in one ;)

I thought about the old jam butty Clint but you know I'm a sucker for Haro and I got a nos one pretty cheap!
Plus one of the bikes I'm using for inspiration had a Haro one on it and it looked good .. Granted without a lock nut! :daumenhoch:
-
Why not get your haro flex fighter partially tapped out to form a 2 in 1 :daumenhoch:
-
Flex fighters are the work of the devil & all should be binned :yahoo_silent:
They have no place on any bike let alone a freestyler Ant !!!
Shit rotor that doesn't work or nowt :LolLolLolLol:
-
:LolLolLolLol: ...oops people are really going to hate this next build of mine! :10_2_12: ::)
I like 'em so I'm going to put one on my bike ... Too hell with you all goddamnit! :tickedoff: :LolLolLolLol:
Ps Clint I've got an engineer friend who could do this but I'll keep it OG me thinks .. Normal headset and flex fighter it will be :daumenhoch:

You can't hate a freestyler

Thought it may be against your OG religion Ant but that's the way I roll :-*

The hutch were the nuts BITD prior to rotors. They worked really well. I never knew any one that had the other setup

Yeah the hutch set up was used by loads of pros too...
Good to get the official heads up on the other set up ... Very much OTT as expected :daumenhoch:
-
Flex fighter or locknut, but not both. Too much going on, plus you won't have enough of the stem quill in the forks
-
It's gonna be ....Flex fighter no headlock no flexfighter! Doh :knuppel2: :LolLolLolLol:
There's only one way to find out!.....FIGHT!!!! :2gunsfiring_v1: :LolLolLolLol:
