Title: Redline Carrera - rebuild. Need loads of info
Post by: jimwise68 on August 18, 2006, 08:04 AM
BITD, i very nearly had a Redline Carrera (in white). Went to the shop to get it and some other lucky b'stard had beat me to it.

I understand it is the same frame as the PL-20 with different components (basically). Feel free to correct me.

I have a chance to buy a mint PL-20 from the states and want to build it up as a Carrera. So I can have THE bike I should have had.

Trouble is I need some spec sheets and pix to complete the build.

All help and comments gratefully received.

This also means my TA frame and forks, MK1 EZ bars, minty mint black tuffs (alloy hubbed) and other Skyway related stuff will be going up for sale.

I don't think they are the same Jim, ask Subwax - he knows his Carreras.

Let me know when you're reeady to get rid of the Tuffs though (wanna trade for a Cali frame/forks) or £?  ;)

PL20 is the frame & fork kit, Carrera was the complete bike that used the PL20 frame kit.

The build will depend on what year the frame set is...

I have pics on my other laptop, I'll dig 'em out later ;)

Nice one Bren.

Seeing as you don't want to get rid of yours I have sourced another one.

Might be the 85 model though.

Cali frame and forks hey! mmmmmm

I'll let you know Guy.

I haven't been this excited in ages!  :buck2:

I really want to get this sorted out.

I've checked the pix of the frame and it looks identical to Brenn's beauty but has the later sticker set.

It has been restored so perhaps the sticker set is just the newer ones.

Guy you have all the bikes I want!  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

Why not let me restore it for you. Perhaps come up with a deal for the tuffs and cash.

How much are the frame and forks worth roughly?

If I let you restore it, it will take away the fun part from me  ;D

I will get round to it soon, just a few more parts to get. The reason it's taking so long, is I'm trying to find the correct parts. Think I'm gonna compromise though, just to get it built up, then replace those parts when I find them  :)

Jim, I paid £150 for mine (F+F), to be fair the forks are only good for display, so expect it to be worth £200+ if the forks are good.

A good set of forks are like rocking horse shit though, been looking for 8 months and only ones have been stateside at over £60 +PP
I fitted se landing gear replicas for when i ride it, cant trust the original forks to stand up to 18 stone at 30Mph  :LolLolLolLol:

Ratty

thanks mate, just the info that I needed.

That's pretty much the price I offered. Just got to wait for him to get back to me. It is coming from the states so gotta pay the p&p on top. But that is a small price to pay for such a lovely example.

Xmas has come early hopefully.

I paid £80 a few month back for a later frame and fork set, same spec as yours, just needs a powder and a bit of TLC :daumenhoch:

GMACs is a nice one to find... if you can, £150-200ish for frame & fork set

Rattys red & white Proline is the dogs nuts, USA made, late 70s... £250-350? full bike sold on US ebay earlier in the year for only £50, bloke wouldn't ship to the UK... doh!

For a bike that's as good as any Pro Class, Hutch or GT, they don't go for a lot of cash...

I've found someone in the states who does the original white popper ones with Redline or Carrera on!
Not original but repro will do until (if) I find some real ones.

Jim , your F+F looks 85ish so the popper pads would be too old , you need the grey/black ones  :daumenhoch: . My PL20 was sold to Darren on here who shifted it on elsewhere .

Matt, I know but want to do it to the original style. I'm gonna change the decals and get the older pads. A bit uncouth but I want it to replicate the one I missed BITD. I am gonna be using it (to race too, thanks to MK). So not worried about it being a younger frame dressed in older threads.

Hey Tony ,

There is probably a thread somewhere here in Resto which outlines the letters (in the serial numbers) that correspond to years of manufacture :daumenhoch:

Or someone else might re-post it .

Matt
