that peroxide stuff you use to bleach hair to whighten any mags ???
had this mad idea while slightly pi$$ed :LolLolLolLol:

There is a thread on the museum about it. Apparently it need strong sunlight to get the best results so pull your finger out before it pisses it down :LolLolLolLol:

Hmmm might be worth a try on something not too valuable to you....
My mum is a hairdresser and she uses a coloured plastic handled brush to apply things like that but it doesnt have any effect on the brush... But its still worth a go I guess :daumenhoch:

ahhh he's used the food/medical grade stuff. reading up on it the hair stuff is stronger & more like a creamy consistency, i thought that'd be better as you could just lag it on with a brush ???

Try some Sun in Super hair lightener or John Freida spray in solution what I use. Its pre mixed and simply wet the mags and spray on, wipe, repeat, leave in the sun. Worth a punt at a £5!

Chemicals :4_17_5: Love anything with dangerous stuff me :daumenhoch: Wanna c if this works ::)
:LolLolLolLol: there's got to be a chemist (not the type that works in boots) on here who could tell us what to mix with what to do this kind of thing ???
-
just been reading some computer collecter sites, they use peroxide & that oxy washing adative stuff mixed together to whiten old computers !!! .
-
left this stuff on till now, rinsed it off & it ain't made a blind bit of difference . it does smell like it's "just stepped out of the salon" though.....

In all seriousness it looks like the same sort of reaction you get with citric acid on rust. Lets just hope youre not rotting your seat rails in the process :LolLolLolLol:
-
nice >:D deffo coming from the rails, they were a bit scabby. don't think the museum guy stripped the pedals first though ???
-
Just wiki'd it and it should be fine with the steel/chrome. This thread reminds me, i got some industrial powdered dye a while back and was going to see if i could dye non nylon stuff with it
Hmmmmm (http://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/scratchchin.gif)

Come on then what did you do with it Richard? Its not like you can just launch it under a bush like a sparrow :LolLolLolLol:

Glad I checked back on this thread :LolLolLolLol:
RIP Seagull, that's one less sandwich-stealing skyrat in Cornwall now

-
Thats a cracking result :daumenhoch:
We need an equally amusing thread for the mags now ;)
-
right then I've put a wheel in,10 ltrs is only just enough to cover it in the pan I've got !!!!!!!!
the pic makes it look better than it is,they were awful to start with, very dirty & lots of brake rub. soaked them in bleach for over a week, came out lot cleaner but still yellowy
(http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/r559/chubby1971/2013-07-21213650.jpg)
lets see what happens with em...
-
Ace :daumenhoch:
If the peroxide starts to evaporate fill the gaps in between the mag spokes with bottles or jars full of water so they dont float. That should give you a little more volume :daumenhoch:
-
Top thread. :LolLolLolLol:
-
update time, wheels been in a couple of days, process really seems to rely on the sunshine as it's been cloudy & no bubbling really happening. looking whiter though & no deaths have occurred either.
found an old bin lid to put over the pot as rain forecast later.... :daumenhoch:

-
That has turned out fantastic! Ive actually got the same yellowing seat so I might give it a bash!
Well done for the results! Top stuff! .....maybe the seagul didnt think so but hey ho ;D
-
top result :daumenhoch: can't beat some chemical fumes in the morning :daumenhoch:
so what's the tally on rad now then ,
one fly, deceased ,
one cat with chemical burns, alive but very nervous near anything that bubbles
one seagull deceased.
:LolLolLolLol:
-
Persil white :4_17_5:
No ok maybe some of gods creatures were harmed during the making of this thread :LolLolLolLol:
-
thanks fellas, really quite surprised with the results, like i said before it really needs sunlight to work (bubbles like fook then) . anybody think of something i can protect them with now ??.
p.s what's the burnt cat story ???
-
p.s what's the burnt cat story ???
Quite possibly my favourite ever thread on Rad
I sincerely hope it survived, had me in stitches

WD40 is the usual protective layer for bleached stuff Richard. I know people who use it instead of that back to black stuff for bumpers :daumenhoch:

used wd on the red zytecs on the airzone, prob explains why it don't stop !!!! used that muck off silicone spray on the blue ones keeps em lovely, don't know what'll be best ???
-
Ive used Hydrogen Peroxide a few times over here in the US (oop North in Maine not Florida) and unfortunately it really needs a lot of bright sunshine to activate it and start bleaching things...including push stains off the kids mattresses aswell.... ;D ;D
-
(oop North in Maine not Florida)
oop North...... :LolLolLolLol: brill N S divide over the pond ;D
-
We use this as a Biocide at work, we have gallons of the stuff
-
We use this as a Biocide at work, we have gallons of the stuff
well there we go, instead of the country's back gardens being full of dead stuff, we can send our whites to moza :daumenhoch:
how do you dispose of it mate ???
-
The Seagull might be deed but at least he's the whitest he's ever been 8)
-
Alway´s use some kind off cover!
Next time,it ´s your pet,if have any tho.
:D
-
more importantly use a cover to stop the rain getting in & weakening the solution >:(
-
Yep,& that also!
:LolLolLolLol:
-
Right then,I took the other wheel out earlier. It's been in alot longer than the other,it's not quite as white as the other but you'd be hard pressed to tell when on a bike.
This process really needs strong sunlight to get a good result & I'd deffo try to cover up the pan with a clear cover next time, this will allow sunlight in & keep rain/seagulls out >:D
(http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/r559/chubby1971/20130808_175720.jpg)
I've put another wheel in now & it seems to be bubbling away quite happy,so even though the peroxide has been diluted a fair bit it still works.
-
Look the part those Richard :4_17_5:

i,ve just come across this thread, and to let you all know that I have used hydrogenperoxide to reverse
sun bleaching on lego bricks. It works just fine. Just submerge the item in it,and leave in strong sun light
untill white. the stuff I used was low percentage/non toxic, and used as catering cleaner.
BTW look at what this solution can be used for....you will be surprised!
-
This method here looks like it's a massive pain in the arse but it gets results:

That was a great vid...thanks for sharing. i have had a few mixed results with peroxide. i spent 2 years trying to do some Sharp XC grips, it worked but they just went back yellow eventually! did some white tuff pads which came out great...i tried a seat the other day in cream but that didn't work at all as i don't think the sunlight was strong enough. i love the ideas in that vid i just don't have a big enough place to do it....need to wait for bloody summer! ::)
