I was watching it but didnt bid, was gonna mail asking if it had a serial on the dropout but ive no room for it and ive got a dirtbike that ive still not finished

Mail the seller asking for the serial no. if its starts SMD its a dirtbike, if it starts HXL its a Holmes...  :daumenhoch:

Get some pics up when it lands

Good score btw...  :daumenhoch:

Had a little punt too, i thought it was a holmes.
Looks built up with cheap haro? bits, and chrome looks quite poor.
If it is a holmes still a bargain  :daumenhoch:

Get a photo of the seat clamp area. The seat stay junction will show if its a mk1 or mk2  :daumenhoch:

The mk1 and mk2 dirtbikes were the same as the mk1 and mk3Holmes

it will be a mk3 then, how would i kno what year it is tho? cos it has the double drop outs and 1inch headtube n all tht, i think tht means pre 93 but other than tht i dont kno

I think the frame numbers are just sequential. I have got a bit of a list of frame numbers, with details of the frames and also when it was bought (if known). Give me your frame number and I might be able to give you an idea of year.

never seen this sort of taperd brake stay bridge, will get more pics ones ive cleaned it up and had time to admire
Title: Re: s&m off ebay
Post by: andy_116 on December 22, 2009, 12:56 PM
not taperd but bent alittle where the lines are, and the number is SMD3216
Title: Re: s&m off ebay
Post by: SaMAlex on December 22, 2009, 12:58 PM
Ive just check my list. The earliest mk2 dirtbikes on there belonged to 2 mates of mine. They were both 2 dropouts stuck together, plates at the chain stay and seat stays, and head tube/down tube gussets. They were SMD3262 and SMD3268 and they got them from Hotwheels in 92.

Ive not seen a brake bridge like that but the frame number ties in well. I guess yours in an early 92 one.

yeah needs abit of TLC, will wilco or halfords have some stuff i can give it a polish with?
Title: Re: s&m off ebay
Post by: gobshite on December 22, 2009, 01:28 PM
halfords will, anusol=autosol metal polish,

wilco or any supermarket should sell dura-glit, it comes in a tin on a kind of impregnated cotton wool, great for the final polishing,

funky frame thought that, get some pics when its done? on a plain background?

nah, mine are normal the seatstay one is 2 pieces of metal sandwhiched together, the chainstay is just a single plate. The forks on my 92 dirtbike have wierd bends on the fork legs, more triangular than curved and the dropouts are sandwiched.

Title: Re: s&m off ebay
Post by: bmxbert on December 23, 2009, 11:41 AM
just a thought but im pretty sure that if hot wheels built the early frames im betting that little plate was for a bike stand
i bet if it was a full bike reflectors would have been on them so you might find that plate is just for a bolt on stand.

if you look at old scwin lowriders and a few older bmx companys alot of them had stands. maybe hotwheels did it without s&m really having a say.

its a bit of a shot in the dark but i bet if you got a stand it would fit like a glove

seen that plate before too, but was sure it was on a homeless mack

little update for you all, the bikes coming together well, all the parts are slowly coming together, waiting on some cranks for it atm, then a chain, but apart from that i think ive got all the parts
so heres a little picture of the frame and forks, as it seems all my others are out of focus
stay tuned  :daumenhoch:
