about time we had a decent chinwag on here with a bit of applied science
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/aa304/covphil/IMAG0006-1.jpg)
ever since i got these i've been debating which is the rotational direction as the tread pattern seems to contradict itself. now i've done some research into tread patterns within automotive engineering and also through mountain biking where the right tire really can make a difference
from the thread of my new bike there seems to be some sort of concencus that they are on the wrong way round. from research a general law is apparent that the tread is shaped somewhat like an arrow head, mainly for water dispertion or mud clearence, it basically feeds outwards to prevent clogging. having the arrow forward also gives a faster roll.
what we've got on the mac2 is a contradicting pattern. to the majority of riders these days who don't run pegs i suppose the inner pattern pointing forward would be beneficial as the side wall will never get touched. running pegs though provides a different argument. if the inner pattern is forward then the outer pattern is backward so normal roll is easier but grinding on a ramp has the adverse effect. running the pattern vice/versa will give slower roll, but should give less friction during grinds. thats the science i came up with anyway, and why i'm running them that way.
what blows this theory out the water is the fact that the tread pattern is about 1mm deep, as they are never likely to see wet conditions or even know what mud is 1mm won't really make one bit of difference as to which way the tread pattern lies, and is only there for aesthetic purposes, if full grip is what its all about they'd be better off with a fully knurled tire and no pattern
so is there another scientific method to put to this or is just a case of 'thats how everyone else has them'
your thoughts please

i run pegs and have my tyres so the arrows face forward, ive seen no abrnormal wear and tbh if your good at grinding your tyres shouldnt touch any part of the ramp when grinding, when i grind i only use the first 2/3rds of the peg so the tyres are clear of the ramp :daumenhoch:
-
i dont always even look tbh but when i do i make the v facing forward.
-
I run my front one 'facing' forward & my back one 'facing' backwards but I go backwards as much as I go forwards so god knows if it makes a difference dude!? :)
-
Dont be offended by my remark on your bike thread dude... :daumenhoch:
I run em with the inner v facing forwards
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/m48/markw33/P1020353.jpg)
The outer tread faces backwards (looking from above) but where its in contact with a ramp surface (underneath) its side tread is facing forward giving more sideways grip... i would have thought... :-\
Its messing with my head now which way round they go... :D
Fook it, i'll go with 'everyone else has em that way'... lol
-
do what I do Phil, skid & slid the fook out of them.. no tread, no problem :daumenhoch:

I had some Panaracer Trailraker I think tyres on one of my MTBs & the front tyre went on one way & the rear tyre the other, thats how there designed to work & they are the same, so it not specific front & rear's ???
-
i had mine on the way the tread went and was told by every skinny bmxer they was on wrong inc meddle who isnt skinny lol
i have mine so the arrow faces forward on the middle tread
-
:LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: I can't believe this thread !!!!
I was just looking at my bike before I came on here tonight and I realised that I had my Khe's with one facing forward and the other backwards, so I guessed the arrows point forward so I removed the rear, turned it round put it back on the bike and now You guys say it doesn't matter .........how bizzare !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ps Happy Newyear to you all.
Steve.

my bad :-[

has anybody asked KHE ? remember with the other KHE tyres they put an arrow on :-\
-
with that tread pattern it'll make next to zero difference to how the tyre feels or handles,
try it both ways, i'll guarantee you wont feel any difference at all.

there sort of is a arrow but i ran mine the wrong way app for months
and they still rolled as fast and smooth as they are now
