Title: Raw Streetbeat - What to do?
Post by: PHIPPSIO on December 30, 2009, 09:37 PM
I know there were a few of these around a couple of years ago but this is the first one that i have seen in a raw state. Quite interesting to see that the rust has formed predominantly on the mild steel tubes, not the chromoly. Im guessing so anyway....

So this turned up in the post just before xmas from the states in trade for a late nineties haro frame. I was tempting myself to build a streetbeat for a while as it does feel like you have "license" to be bold with these bikes where i cant bring myself to with my other stuff

Was thinking maybe chroming it? any ideas?

If I remember correctly the streetbeats were full chr-mo and the streetstylers only had chr-mo main tubes.

Nice Dom  :coolsmiley: how about wild colours the yanks tend to go for i.e. lime greens, pinks, purples, neon colours etc... but chrome would be very nice I must say as Martin's at MK looked the nuts  :smitten: :daumenhoch:

That's the one I was thinking of, it looked the nuts. I have a 'beat still hanging around, I might strip it and do one.

I'd go 2 Tone :daumenhoch:
I think SBD has done a few. I thought I read somewhere about him taking measurements for the correct stripe angles etc
Anyone got pics of or link to these?

Do you remember in Action Bike, in the Curb Dogs issue there was a prototype Street Beat in chrome? That looked the biz, was Martin's based on that? It could be among the mk08 pics. If it were mine I'd be going for chrome, mk 1 ez bars, mk 1 spinmaster and the pre-wacky era colours, parts and styling.

+1 on the chrome.  As has been said already, if the f+f is chromed you can use whatever coloured components you fancy. 8)

If you do Dom, not teaching you to suck eggs but do as much of the polishing around the fidly bits in the platform yourself or be specific with them and check it's done properly before the plating.

Biagio had one for sale in the last couple of years in chrome, £200. Which wasn't too bad a price for him. Saying that cheap Street Beat's were in abundance a few years back. £60 posted from Gini's?

There was also one for sale in the US, an original one, Darren Chan was selling it, I think it was a Chrome Prototype, it had a very low serial number.

Yeah its worth doing properly. I do have an ok chrome guy i use down here and i tend to take out the potential for problems by doing a lot of the prep and then asking them to prep as well. Chrome is sounding favourite then
