Title: thinking of starting all over..
Post by: harris on January 31, 2010, 10:16 AM
my new years res was to start afresh with alot of things i had been putting of doing or been lazy to sort..
so this year and trust me it will take a year to sell of everything i have and start again..bike wise.
i have not 1 intention of giving up in fact its the hunt i enjoy,so fancy a fresh bunch of stuff to get my teeth into.
so just not sure the best way to attack it...gonna be an immense job splitting everything down and pictures /pricing and posting.
gimme your thoughts on the best way to start.

best to start with parts which are not on complete builds, clear out all the spares/odds and sods then all u will have left are complete bikes which u can sell whole or begin to split one by one

you can start by selling me a set of super pros :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

i went out this morning to see what to do but just walked out scratching my head.
i could get the completes stripped in 2 days i guess, then photo the lot wold take 2 days with descriptions of condition.
a day to price up at a guess ...but posting it will be a challenge...
i might even employ someone to do it...time to wrap and post will be the hardest for me i think.

Post by: kev-s on January 31, 2010, 10:38 AM
tbh if u start stripping completes and sell everything at the same time it will make it harder to keep track of everything u have sold, need to post and awaiting payment for so i personally think its best to do one complete at a time espcially with the amount u have!!
Title: Re: thinking of starting all over..
Post by: harris on January 31, 2010, 10:41 AM
money wise splittings best but completes are easier at a lesser price and less hassle to move along
but when you start to add up even at real low prices it does add up to alot for a complete ..so a tough one.
Title: Re: thinking of starting all over..
Post by: kev-s on January 31, 2010, 10:47 AM
yeah completes even when cheap are still quite dear when they are built to the spec urs are and u need to find someone who want a complete with the majority of parts u have on urs

unless they are really rare or have rare expensive parts then most people dont like to pay more than £500-£600 for a complete and some of yours would fetch more than that if stripped

i suppose its down to if u want a cheap quick hassle free sale or hold on and wait and get good money for parts

Post by: Philbert on January 31, 2010, 10:56 AM
you can start by sending all the rare standard stuff to my worthy address!

and a set of super pro's

hello dan, maybe type a list of the parts onto a word document and do the prices as you type. then copy and paste onto here. then get a load of the parts onto your bed or something and do one big photo.

totally agree the packing and trips to the po is the hard part :( but you will enjoy watching your paypal account swell with funds for new goodies. so all well worth while in the end :daumenhoch:

I'll get a van and take most of it off your hands for free :LolLolLolLol:
I'd say get rid of the odds and sods knocking around that you dont think you will need, There's nothing like selling a part then 2 weeks later thinking oh shit wish I still had that.
Maybe make a wish list of what you want to build next and list of parts that you might want to keep.

if I were you, Id put off selling anything for a good 6 months, let the economy pick itself up, Ive noticed a lot of old/mid school stuff not selling for what they were a year or 2 ago, maybe the interest has dipped but im betting its the economy crashing.

Dan I did this about 18 months ago, maybe two years, I started to sell of all those parts I had spare, then I started on one bike at a time stripping them down, a lot went on here or ebay, I find that around five items at a time is best to sell, unless its big items like frames or wheels, which you will need bog boxes for.

It amazed me how much money I raised   If your going to do it, just take your time, quality items always fetch good money whenever you sell them, I just sold this used rear mech on ebay & could not believe how much it went for

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300390637227&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT#ht_500wt_980

BTW f you have any Nos white alloy/coaster Tuffs LMK  :daumenhoch:

i havent any white coasters mate sorry..i just started taking pics of a few bits and gonna probably do an ebay shop
looks like a better way to get shot of it and gives everyone a pop at stuff.its one hell of a task...i have  few new builds in mind so the faster i sell this lot
the faster i can get on with new builds.

yep  that and subwax is flooding the market with stuff at mo so prices of stuff will drop as how many people need frames ,it`s  the bits that are harder to find

Best of luck Dan, I am still trying to shift the last bits of stuff from my last hobby so I know how hard it is.

I'd recommend you don't go the ebay shop route as the fees will really hit you hard, it's only advisable if you are going to use it to make a living but even then I struggle to see the benefits over a normal account. My best sales came from word of mouth posting on forums and then having people visit who'd inevitably buy more than they said they would, just remember have a price in mind and be firm.

If you need any help, I am unemployed in a week or so and willing to help.

...and the obligatory request, if you have any Basic parts an Odyssey Reloader or Sym hubs needing a home please give me a shout.
