Need to get bars back but the bolts on the stem are TIGHT and are not budging. Any ideas?
-
What stem is it?
-
???
err..according to advert it's a Haro 90 degree......but the link sends you to the spec for the newer model 540. I think this is 2004 model

get a 6mm alen key put it into the alan nut, take a bit of tube (an old seat tube is the nuts for this) and slot it over the long part of the alan key.
This will give you a better lever thus allow you more power.
Make sure the alan key is in square though as they like to round off :)
Oh, swift note, make sure you are indeed turning the key the correct way :)
(anti clockwise to undo)

right....gonna try! Thanks

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs......
When you tighten the stem, do it in a 'cross pattern' making absolutely sure that the gap between the two parts of the stem remains even all the way round. That makes sure the stem is working at its strongest, which in turn means you need only tighten it up to a good nip, if you see what I mean - no need to use the extra tube. You could also whip the bolts out completely and add some grease to 'em to help you in the future :)
HTH

??? extra tube ???

May I help you madam?
