Title: Advice needed on a pk ripper build
Post by: generallee on March 29, 2006, 10:04 AM
Hi there,
I have this old pk ripper that has an ok paint job, but im considering having it done by missfits in baby blue -
Now here s my quandry - This is a fairly rare [i believe] straight chainstay model - but I would like a looptail ripper frame. Which is the more sought after / rarer? I either repaint this one, and get some 1" landing gears [those are copies on there at the mo] and some other bits, or should I sell this frame and get a looptail?
Any advice if you know your SE stuff appreciated!

Ta for the replies - but Ive decided to actually scale down a bit - not enough room in the house and i'll be in sooo much trouble with my wife if I get another bike! Ahh, my dreams of a looptail and a kuwahara are fading fast. Oh well - will be abying the white straight stay ripper in the next couple of weeks.
The cruiser aint going nowhere though!!!

They are rarer than looptails too :daumenhoch: hang onto it...it will be worth its weight in gold one day.
Dont butcher that  finish... leave it as it is...it looks beautiful :smitten:

What year is the straight stay?  I keep flicking back to have a look at it. Be great for the rad meets that one. Problem with the looptails (if you cn have a problem) is you don’t want to ride them as they’re a bit fragile and a lot valuable. :o

I BELIEVE THE STRAIGHT CHAINSTAY MODEL WAS ONLY MADE FOR ONE YEAR 1986. SOMEONE WILL CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.

I WOULD KEEP HOLD OF IT IF I WAS YOU.

Cheers for all the replies - I had a feeling the straghtstay was rare but wasnt sure - now I know. I didnt realize they were made for just one year! Still may get it repainted though as the white job is ok but not perfect [its a respray].
Think Im going to keep hold of it then - I cant bear to let something so rare go... I'll have to take it apart and stash it away for a bit!

keep the straight chainstay, they are a much better ride than the looptail, and much more rare, Yeah they dont fetch the prices that loopys do, but they will only increase in value baring in mind they were only made for one year.
