so them painted frames that were knocking about a few years ago with solid drop outs, were they like this ?
-
Why oh Why oh Why?
I reckon you should fix the drop outs Neil, its got to be worth repairing?! Forks are hard to find, so if they can be carefully repaired it would probably be worth it Matey???
-
Wierd...why would you do that5?
I sold K01344 last year. They are nice them early jap frames.
-
are you going to get that powdered neil?
-
Nice.......get the forks fixed and she's a belter!
Did you get it the same place as the torker? As its got the same 'hammerite' sort of finish to it ???

Would there be any risk of damaging the forks by removing the plates?
-
These early jap frames seem to be popping up quite regular nowadays.
My Frame number is K 02681
-
You'd wonder why somebody would do that to the forks, bound to have had a reason :-\
Suppose nows as good a time to fix it, just after it's been blasted
-

If you look at the first pic of the forks, on the inside of the left dropout it looks like it has been welded under the arrow. Skyway forks are prone to cracking so maybe he wasn't happy with just the weld and decided to double strength each side to be sure :-\
:coolsmiley:
-
Might have been done mid-90's when fat drops got popular for extra strength?
-
Hey Neil ... you've given up resto like I've given up smoking cheeba :buck2:
Temptation is always round the corner...

Nope, they were a different fish altogether with 3 or 4 differences to the K serial and the boggo USA ones.

Quite right Snav69,TA fork dropouts were very prone to cracking.I have a pair myself with some rather fetching
cracks in the dropouts.Could well find if he does remove the plates on these forks that there are some cracks underneath.
