Post by: bert4142 on March 03, 2010, 04:03 PM
I have a set of blue OGK mags on my rider but the front has a buckle. Over the revolution it is about a 3rd of the wheel goes out about 1cm  i guess.

That freezer thing is a myth.

Is a myth a moth with a lisp

I did it - I had my OGKs in the freezer for 5 days back in 86 and I remember it doing them good. Isn't it based on the theory that plastics have a memory and heat or cold takes them back to how they should be...

Skyways are made of nylon, OGK's on the other hand  ???

Never see OGKs with cracks in though... you see a load of Skyways with cracks in... its deja vu on the 'Whats your favourite colour Skyway' thread  :smitten:

Taken from a test in Freestyle BMX... ye olde Skyways still came out on top, but then VHS came out on top over Betamax too.

Pour moi...OGK uber alles  >:D

I've seen a fair few broken OGK's in the past and more recently over here in Oz they turn up cracked all the time plus I have heard that the hubs come loose too  ::).

The Australian OGKs were never as good as the UK ones Marty ... they reacted better to high air moisture content  8)

At the end of the day no mag wheel stood the test of time - I've just had a bunch of new schoolers asking why I'm still rocking 'mags' when 'spokes iz lighter and better innit'

If OGK's are made from Nylon too it stands to reason they won't straighten in the freezer either.  Give it a go and let us know otherwise go with what Glen said.   :daumenhoch:

Dupont GT, I Think this is a thermo- set plastic.

'The curing process transforms the resin into a plastic by a cross-linking process. Energy and/or catalysts are added that cause the molecular chains to react at chemically active sites (unsaturated or epoxy sites, for example), linking into a rigid, 3-D structure. The cross-linking process forms a molecule with a larger molecular weight, resulting in a material with a higher melting point. During the reaction, the molecular weight has increased to a point so that the melting point is higher than the surrounding ambient temperature, the material forms into a solid material.
Uncontrolled reheating of the material results in reaching the decomposition temperature before the melting point is obtained. Therefore, a thermoset material cannot be melted and re-shaped after it is cured. This implies that thermosets cannot be recycled, except as filler material'.

Be careful if you Apply heat.  don't go to hot a hair drier should suffice.  You get to warm and the wheels are toast...
