I think the old sign frontage was Red lettering with Blue background?

Bought me first set of tuffs from the Basildon branch. Lavinder ones. :smitten:
Also diacompe breaks, Kashi's, Comp 3's and all sorts of decent bits and bobs, It was a pretty big store though ???.

Danny Harris is the man to ask this question to, as he rode for Halfords BITD.

I worked in halfords at the weekends around 1986, the only ones I remember that were good were the Diamond Backs and Redlines, there was obviously others like Raleigh, scorpion and the other lower end ones they sold... just before I left we were selling off Skyway tuffs for a fiver each... the last DB Silver Streak I sold was half price at £125!!

wow, really? i don't remember that. are you sure? i know i can't remember 95% of my childhood but i would have bet money it was there, maybe i just remember halfords being there after it moved. but they deffo had goose and db when i got the burner when they were a new release bike for christmas. might have even been earlier than 82 come to think of it. what year did they release the burner? I hate not having much recollection of stuff from my early years. somebody help me out. i got a red and yellow burner when they were new that year for my birthday/christmas present(happens a lot when your birthday is in december :'( ) i was the first on our street to get a bmx, that much i remember because everybody wanted a do and my dad got mad because i came in the house and my new bike was still outside with somebody else on it. :-[ and he was an angry fella back then.
-
You're probably right with the Red and yellow burner being 82 crimbo John :daumenhoch: (How old were you just turned 10 or 11 :) )
but you'll have got it at the( H. Samuel ) first shop. Like you said looking back you'll just remember the shop being at (HMV) second location as it would've been there for longer when BMX was going , I suppose
Eccy is more of a Warlands wufter , whearas I got my first BMX about year before at Ewood bikes ( Ammaco sport )
I think I wanted a Halfords Turbo or a Team Murray for about a year or 2 previous to that, just after I got my Grifter in 79
Very happy days ::) :smitten:
-
I used to go to halfords in reading 82ish , remember getting some red 7x , mks graphite pedals & renthal bars :smitten:
-
I remember new malden halfords had 400 cranks and they were in there for years , always wondered if they sold them or just bin them when bmx died
-
raleigh and their own i thought !
-
the store in queen street cardiff had 400 flights locked in a cabinet to stop us getting out mits on them. cant remember any other brands other that were mentioned, we had a mate who had a saturday job there which was very useful!!
-
i remember my local halfords had a scorpion brakedancer a mongoose decade and a mongoose fs1, they also sold shimano dx pedals for £12 a pair. a mate of mine still has his mongoose fs1 he got from halfords bitd.

It had two floors and was on the corner by the road (cant remember the name of road). I "acquired" my Red Suntour Power stem for my California from there ::)
