I will have a pound each way on this ever coming to fruition (is that spelt correctly?)

would love it to be good, but i'm not holding my breath ( lagery as it is!)

someone from here would have known about a bike shop in their locale flogging good stuff BITD and have enquired/robbed it in the previous 25 years.

gut wants it, heart wants it, mind says its a fix...

I dont believe a shop lays undiscovered, 10 years or more ago Biagio,Kirk,Mcnulty and myself all had jobs on the road and would visit every shop we saw and I am sure others were doing it too, surely this would not have got missed???

I've had a  look in the back of that shop about 7 years ago, and it was full of used bike...  fooking choca block, piled up like a tiny indoor scrap yard. He had a few Raliegh bits kicking about, Grifter seats, the odd cheapo snake belly and shitty OGK mags, I'm sure it shut down a year or so later.

Full of old shite, the Burner boys would have liked it ;D

bet theres loads of shops undiscovered out there as Joe ran a franchise in the late 1800s ,  Reckon its someone who wants rid of their old tat and placed it inside the shop for authenticity
Title: Re: Old local bike shop stock discovery and ebay listing
Post by: scary_leary on March 14, 2010, 08:39 AM
A few years ago i was driving wagons and would call in on every old looking bike bike shop, found a few tuffs, seats and brakes but never the mother load
or any bikes/frames..
A few good leads never materialised, once got a tip that a shop near ashton manchester had bikes stacked up in its celler,
i spoke to the owner who said come back in a week (after the school hols) and i'll let you have a look.. so after a week of excitement i uncovered a room full of cheap argos type barbie shit..
Never passed this place in Holmfirth mind :(

like the idea of some old bike stuff laid away for years, what i don't like is the ebay listing, with no pictures, no full inventory of the stuff and what condition its in, the lister on ebay is selling on behalf of someone else and finally how they say its advertised somewhere else, can't believe its up tp over 2 grand without those details, also its listed eleswhere is a ebay violation surprised it has'nt been pulled, anyway i'm sure biagio is round there now taking the best stuff or all of it :LolLolLolLol:
Title: Re: Old local bike shop stock discovery and ebay listing
Post by: HARORIDER on March 14, 2010, 09:09 AM
i agree martylaa  you surely would not even bid without seeing the stuff first :-\ sure it says dia compe brakes now everyone is thinking sh1t it's mx1000 full brake sets but might only be the old racer style :-\

buyer beware ::)

I guess cash on collection could help. If it's no good don't pay.
On the other hand I wouldn't want to rock up to that place with 4k+ in my pocket.

'Just this way sir. That's it through that little door. My friends will assist you from here.' ;D

Thats the Shop Snav, i used to drive past it and it was always shut, i phoned the contact number that was placed on the door, but never got an answer, then one day i stopped by and there was a message in the window saying about the owner dying, i never followed it up after that. There was a old raleigh  sign up in the window. I should have been a bit more persistent me thinks.,

2900 and going, I sent them a few q's last night, but they replied saying a deal was pending. Weird its still there.

Maybe theyre waiting to see how much people are willing to offer before pulling it, giving the old lady a couple of hundred for it, and the finding out whats its really worth.

If this is a genuine listing they should pull it stating the auction will return in a few days..
They can see the interest its generated, relist with a full picture and parts breakdown..

we can all sit back with a beer and watch it unfold.

"all the money less the fee is going to her"  ... yeah sure!

one thing i just can't understand is this.

the seller has sold bmx's on ebay before and knows these are collectable. the lady with the shop wanted rid and was going to skip the lot. why did he not just say i will take them away for you or offered a couple of hundred pounds for them? from what i can make out the lady would have been happy for the space?

A few years ago I went to Joe's bike shop on one of my road trips one Saturday - in between picking up a Quad, Haro Sport, Vector bars, Torker Stem etc etc and later a loopy Floval F&F  >:D

Was a good day that  ::) but there wasnt anything goodies to be had in the shop part at Joes. Who knows what lay behind the scenes though. Had a nice chat with the old guy though.

why would he state dia-compe brakes and other brakes if he had no knowledge of o/s bmx, also seems a bit strange that its only bmx bikes and parts and not other types of bikes. hope no one gets fleeced.

Hi guys, 1st post

I emailed these people, got the same response as others!

However, having now thought about it, Raleigh didn't box bikes in the 80's, they simply put cardboard sleeves around them...

That makes me think that these bikes were either fiction, or alot newer than anyone thought...

my thoughts exactly.I said this on Burnerworld, strange if the owners were the 'outright' owners of the property then why keep paying rates on a shop that is not generating any kind of income back for them, also if it was only leased, then i would have thought that the original owners of the shop would have wanted it back open to generate an income for the shop, not keep it shut up for some 20 odd years :idiot2:

Up until 2008 you'd get 50% business rates relief if it were vacant, now your still liable to pay 100% with just the first 3 months relief. And this place doesn't look like it could be considered vacant anyway.

this shop couldnt have closed in the 80,s as the dialling code on the shop phone number is 01484,
the 1 was introduced to the dialling code in the early/ mid nineties. :)
