Title: Dyno NFX for my daughter... * FINISHED *
Post by: ED209 on March 16, 2010, 03:18 PM
Inspired by the various builds you lot do for you kids ( especially Norty40's christmas Olsgoose and the look on his daughters face ) I decided to do something for my 8 year old girl Issy

I'd recently done what I could to her mini mtn bike to 'bmx it up' and she took it to Boleshill track in Sheffield and was very into razzing it around the jumps...

I brought a Specialized Vegas for 50 notes off ebay aka. The Pig ... stuck it up on here for opinions and got told... "if it falls on her it will kill her" ... "leave it on a roundabout somewhere" ... cheers fellas!

But as a result I got talking to James ( Heywood BMX ) and he said he had an old Dyno NFX, which was a suitable sized frame, knocking about... to cut a lot of PMs short, James got a bikes worth of bits together for me with the frame and sent them over... for the price of postage...

Izzy was blown away by James's generosity, as was I ... he is a fooking star and will be treated as royalty in my house if he ever stops by

So by nicking the decent bits off of The Pig, the mini Powerlite bars and range Ame's off the mini mtn bike and James's donations ... it was game on.

Purple and orange is the colour scheme and I'm at it right now... stinking of pear drops!

- Thanks to Norty for the inspiration.
- Thanks to Franz for the info on NOT using car lacquer over the Plasti Kote
- Thanks to munnyella for flowing a smaller crank ( see you down the Boardroom on the 3rd dude )

and THANKS to the power of INFINITY to James for his generosity  8) you a star dawg.

PS. My youngest daughter just walked in my my paint mask on saying 'I am Darth Vader' she then walked out and there was a massive crash and screaming... I went out and asked my wife what had happened.. "I don't know" she said "all I heard was a little voice saying 'I AM DARTH VADER' then she fell down that hole"   :4_17_5:

19.03.10 Finished...

Dads TO DO list :
- Get some decals down... looks like being some Dyno crossed with a dragon ( Issy's idea )
- Might end up dyeing the suede on the seat black as its not quite a colour match on the purple ( RADANAL syndrome )
- Think I need some orange on the back end so I need to spray the seat post orange again.
- a nice early 90s chainwheel - maybe orange.
- orange brake cable... longer than the one on it.

...my daughter fooking loves it though  :smitten: and I'm a bit jealous... its a skid machine! I had a raz this afternoon and got back to my youth doing drifiting step-through skids  :daumenhoch: luv it.

Started getting it built tonight... 'certain people' are getting excited already.

Got to add an orange seat post with back seat, black GT pedals, silver & black GT chainwheel and spray the 1pc crank orange.

looking good.

that crank looks long though, is it staying?

I have a 6 1/4 (about 156mm) that you can have. its a steely, but might be  better suited to your daughters legs!

You may be already on it, in which case, ignore this!

Good on you Ed , top Dad  :4_17_5:

Glad 'Olsgoose' inspired someone because I don't think the purist's liked it   :D

The bike is looking great mate , sure Izzy's friends are going to be so envious of her new ride  8)
Look's like you have got the 'Rattle cans' of to a T   :D

Very kind gesture by James too , he has helped me out in the past with some bits and pieces and all for the cost of postage  :4_17_5:  He is also always one of the first to answer technical queries on here I have noticed  . Top RADster !

Looking forward to seeing it finished Ed .  :daumenhoch:

Cheers dude... gimme a chance though eh  ;D only just finished it.

+ Im not too sure what to do with the graphics...

a) go for new versions of the originals coloured to match the frame - not very new school + my daughter isn't that bothered and would rather have dragons on it  :buck2: so worth the cost?
b) go for some classic orange dyno logos in a new school style and fashion
c) let her have her way and 'dragon' it up - shes thinking japanese style dragons running down the frame  :-X not really my steez but... its her bike.... children!

A couple of dragons as well  ;D

...all done now.

Daughter was not impressed with crank (too long) seat (too small) brakes (only one) gearing ( too high)  :tickedoff: :knuppel2: >:(

( had to go walk the dog to chiil out ) ...then came back and stripped th crank out and replaced for her mini mtn one ( only 140mm ) that also had a smaller chain ring. Another part arrived from James ... an almost new Gusset seat! and we got it all sorted before she caught the taxi for school so she could have a little ride ... she was like  :smitten: I got big hugs and felt like  :4_17_5: dada

Job well done I reckon... off to Rushcliffe Track on Sunday  :2gunsfiring_v1:

yeah - I cut the fooker too short - it was ok when I had those mini powerlite bars on but pretty tight now with the bigger GT ones.

An orange cable would also be sweet - had to get it done so it was a quick halfords call... against my better judgement and James's advice  :knuppel2:

Propper job that mate, really looks the part.their is nothing like the feeling you get building a bike for your kid :4_17_5: makes you feel less guilty too when you spend time and a kings ransom on a build for yourself :) make the most of the good times, since my daughter turned 15 she has decided it's lame to be seen out on her Goose along side her dad on his MRD  :(

Cheers dude... and thanks to everyone who has dropped comments on here... all much appreciated.

Iz is 8 now so I figure theres a few years before attitude takes over  ::) My mum & dad where over today and I showed them. We are talking about when I so wanted a BMX and they had got some old normal bike and tried to make it as cool as possible  :) they thought I had done a brilliant job for Izzy.

Hoping for some good weather tomorrow to get over to Ruddington and hit the track together  need to get some pics  8)

Its a fine line though isnt it - you want your kids to do the shit that you loved... but woudl you have loved it if your dad had gone it... no way  :idiot2: I'm just trying not to push it and let her get into it in her own way and at her own pace. She understands 'cool' though so I reckon shes gonna be ok  :smitten:
