Now to add even more confusion
AD990, the stickered arm with the nut appears to be closed off (different from the other arm where the cable sits), but obviously drilled for the cable barrel adjuster and nut to be mounted on the black and gold sets, but the gray is open for a cable. So are there 2 different AD990 models?

yup had both types , prefer the nut and bolt version purely because if the double barreled bridge cable snaps chances are your lbs will only have mtb cables that are to long, with the nut and bolt you can cut a normal inner up nice and short , unless you run London mod (twin cables? not sure about the name) , then you don't need to worry, i think there might be another version of the fs with a bigger adjuster and cable stop to ?

you can glen but you will need the other type of nut instead of the barrel adjuster (if that makles sense?) my AD990 on my haro has the closed end on the left hand arm and work a treat :daumenhoch:

Got this FS990 that has a long barrell adjuster to run as a front caliper, but arms are identical to AD990s.
Is for sale too if anyones intersted, new and unused

I'm pretty sure there were a few mixed bag ADs about in the 90s which had everything in there for front or rear before they started using the FS990 deal.
But yeah, they work fine on the rear. I just used an old bit of inner cable for a straddle and a pinchbolt. The only issue I had was that I had to spend some time fiddling with the position of the pinchbolt as mine locked solid into the AD arm and the straddle sat at a weird angle. Still only 5 mins of fiddling though.
