Title: Just how rare are
Post by: scott250 on April 08, 2010, 08:06 PM
Hutch stems? been looking on ebay over the last few weeks, never seen one.  Think I only ever saw 1 bitd.  I had an sr that went onto my dp from my ammaco in the 80s, I never upgraded from that till I started back riding again in 93 with an s&m holmes frame, had a tuffneck then I think before getting a redneck.

tbh - never saw many bitd either - we loved our tuf necks and still do..  ;)

alot had SR as you say, under rated too, coz we never had any problems with ours.

Yer, I couldnt fault the sr - mind you I was alot lighter back then, but still it lasted my 2 bikes & I cracked the dp + my robinson pro bars, while the sr held true, haha.

they're hard to get cos people who have them dont sell them.

Thats what I was thinking :(

had one on my ripper for a while bitd but didn't like it cos it was too long for me so got rid of it and went back to a suntour.
now suntours are ten a penny and you can't get hold of a hutch

I quite like suntours.

What could be a good alt to a hutch stem, for a hutch pro racer?  looks like it might be a long wait to get a hutch stem, if I ever do.

Was never hot on Hutch stems, flakey chrome and all that. I had an ESP on mine, I think it was about £70 when I bought it which was a lot of money for a stem in 1985!

Maybe an alternative to Hutch Western or H is a Hutch branded stem that (I think) were made by SR - they certainly look like SR had a hand in making them, the only difference being that that they have Hutch across the middle of the stem. If they come up they are likley to be cheaper that the chrome jobs.

I've got a couple of these and I'll try and find a photo and post it up.
