I just thought new peeps might like this thread before this gets its second outing at MK11 ;) I always mean 2 do a resto book of pics etc but never get round 2 it as I prefere the actual restos so use my time doing that 4 myself and members on here instead ::)
Update on F------ Chromers this morn 1/5/10 below :tickedoff: Beggining 2 wonder why I bother some times :'( :'( :'(
Picked this baby up 2 nite :smitten: :smitten: Taken nearly 7 months from start 2 finish 2 get this MRD Pro frame in my hands ::)
Its gonna take a hell of a lot of work but will b worth it ::) Oh and the creme de la creme is that the seatpost is a genuine MRD item but is very stuck and slightly bent :LolLolLolLol: I can easy sort that tho :daumenhoch:

As in thread took it 2 the chromers 2 get chrome stripped . Was hoping stripping process would loosen seatpost :wtf:. Picked it up this morning . The F------ Numpties have as good as scrapped it :angrysoapbox: :2gunsfiring_v1: :2gunsfiring_v1: :2gunsfiring_v1: They have let some tit turd try and get the post out . The damage is unreal  How the fook am I going 2 get this sorted 4 MK . Got some ideas on fixing it but Jesus how can u damage a customers part 2 this extent :tickedoff: :2gunsfiring_v1: Am considering asking them 2 pay me 4 the damage, just need 2 calm down enough first as nearly ripped the guys head off this morning :Aresehole:
Dent in Top tube and the rear stays r totally flatted
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/q103/animalmrd/IMG_1952.jpg)
Looks worse from the side
Rear stays r so buggered
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/q103/animalmrd/IMG_1954.jpg)
sorry 4 the rant fellas but need 2 share it cos I am so sodding angry :knuppel2: Took me ages 2 find this and as above ages 2 get my hands on it and now this :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
-
thats going to be costly to chrome, are you having it painted?
-
Yep gonna b white cos already got a chrome 1 ::)
-
nice score dude :daumenhoch:
what forks are goin on it ???
white with chrome forks ??'that would be double tasty 8)
-
come on then steve whats the story behind this one?
is it your mission to own every mrd in existence :LolLolLolLol:
i too have a mrd seatpost by the way, though how you would tell is open to debate, its just a nondescript tube of metal :LolLolLolLol:
-
Good stuff Steve - I'm sure you'll do her proud mate ;)
-
nice score mate........went to the right fella and looking forward to seeing this progress :daumenhoch:
-
Very nice you MRD freak ! :LolLolLolLol: ;)
-
Wow  Was it being used as an anchor? ;D
Is the chrome bit where a pad was or something?
Can't wait to see it brought back to life :daumenhoch:
-
hey steve, ive got one like that with no forks too :LolLolLolLol:
-
nice score steve,no wonder i can never find a pro you have them all ;D
-
Just been doing a bit of remedial work 2 the above ::) Looks like all the rust is mostly surface rust , cos if u scratch at it there is chrome left under all of it ;) which is better ;D Seatpost is soaking ready 4 removal time :-\ then I'll stick the post in a lathe and straighten it . The major problem is that the seatpost tube is not connected 2 the bottom bracket :tickedoff: The guy who had it said it came adrift and he had 2 stop using it . wonder if its still under guarantee with Tim :LolLolLolLol: looks like the braizing never took on the BB casing so gonna have 2 rebraize it ;) Think I will get the chrome stripped off first by my friendly chromer ::)
-
you might have the same problem mine had steve, the bottom of the seat tube had rusted away,i thought it had
cracked but when i started to clean it up the bottom part of tube disintergrated :( here's a few pics of how i repaired it ;)

-
blimey phil, what a repair, you sure thats the same frameset :4_17_5:
-
None of the rust Malarky ;) Phil heres some pics its defo the braizing has not taken properly on the BB . U can c daylight through it when I lever it apart with a screwdriver ::)

-
Great thread this, love to see how you talented fellas do these repairs :daumenhoch:
-
This project is now at chromers getting its chrome stripped ;) Got the seatpost moving but was gonna cause damage 2 frame because it was flexing heavily due 2 the seatpost not being connected to the BB ::) it is also bent inside the frame me thinks :tickedoff: Anyway the chromer thinks by stripping it , it should loosen it more when the acid eats the chrome away on the outside of seatpost . I have also in the pub on Fri nite met an old mate who is gonna let me use his workshop 2 do the neccessary welding repairs 8)
-
IT is now back F------ Bolloxed >:(
-
Really sorry for you man :'(
After all that time and effort. Why do some many Chrome jobs go wrong :tickedoff:
What happened to people taking pride in the work they do?
Who did it. Name and Shame :buck2:
-
that is a fooking disgrace that  you def want to be gettin compensation , they have just had it vice smacking it with a hammer :wtf:
-
Really sorry for you man :'(
What happened to people taking pride in the work they do?
as Paul says ::)
This seems to happen time and time again with chromers :-\ >:(
The damage on the top tube and rear stays is inexcusable imo , throw the fookin book at the numpties :knuppel2:
Hope you can get it sorted somehow mate :daumenhoch:
-
gutted for you steve :'(
-
:wtf: Man.....what is wrong with these people, are they fookin dense or what :tickedoff:
Really hope you can get it sorted fella >:(
-
:'( feel like smacking the twxts myself!
not much comfort now - but you will get it sorted, push on through it bud.. ;)
-
I'd tell them they have to pay for the damage they have caused; that is inexcusable and borders on negligence :2gunsfiring_v1:
-
holy sh*t steve!!gutted for you, what the fook were they thinking???after the fook up on the chrome with my t.a i can really sympathise with you.its a bloody lotttery these days when you take something to the chromers it seems.even compensation aint gonna make it better ,its not like you can go to the shop and buy another one is it,tossers!!! :tickedoff:
-
:wtf: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: this isnt even my frame and its pissed me off!
-
Fookin disgrace that Steve :(
-
Actually Steve, the more I keep looking at the pics the angrier I am getting, I can imagine you're pretty angry yourself. I wonder if there is anything that maybe Phil (Sawzall) or Fuzzynods mate (the drag car build that repaired Romblerks Dave Curry Haro) could do to repair it?
I'm really feeling for you at the moment, this sort of thing is just not fair >:(.
-
that sucks, totally feel for you. It would be the same as taking your car to a garage and them denting or scratching it. The first thing you'd demand is that they fix the damage. i think the same applies in this case. good luck.
-

x2 with bells on :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
-
nice score steve,no wonder i can never find a pro you have them all ;D
yeah was thinking that as well
-
Cheers 4 the replies fellas 8) think I am going 2 go back next week and sort it out one way or another :knuppel2:
-
FOOKIN NUMPTYS , surely at some point one of the blokes in charge of the shop must of realised that the tit working on the "OLD BIKE FRAME" was actually making it worse , bet they gave it to the baseball cap wearing idiot apprentice , whacking it with a big hammer in time to bass playing on the fookin ipod welded to his thick fookin head, :tickedoff: :tickedoff:, its just annoying that there's an lacks attitude and no pride in some industries these days. on a lighter note :LolLolLolLol: was talking to an old mate of mine the other week him and some of his mates were sponserd by MRD bitd , they all got Badlanders supplied foc
-
Feel sorry for you Fella...sure you will have her back on her feet in no time :coolsmiley:
-
you need...........................sawzall
-
How do you fix the flattend stays? Get it fixed by whoever can do it and give that monster of chromer the bill, bloody hell!
-
Hey Steve, did you take it to howels in Walsall? They fooked a couple of my bits up last time too >:(
-
you want 2 take it back and ask 4 compensation.
-
Really sorry for you Steve.
Popped to see Phil this morning and he was telling me about it - couldn't bloody believe it when I saw the pics.
What is wrong with these people?! Great platers or not, going to think twice about giving them more work surely....
Hope you get it sorted dude
Weeksy
-
gutted for you steve ,,,i know you like a resto :'(,but these cnuts want fookin ,as said the idiot who did this must be totally brain dead :crazy2:
-
Right went 2 sort this out with the cnuts 2 day . Spoke 2 the guy Graham who always sorts me out ;) He was very forth coming and said somebody had not followed strict instructions and had taken it upon themselves whilst stripping the chrome 2 try 2 get the post out :uglystupid2: He was gob smacked at the extent of the damage and more than apologetic . He offered 2 pay the whole cost of the repair :daumenhoch: I then used this offer as a brokering deal as I will do the repairs myself or get somebody I trust, like Phil (SAWZALL) 2 help . He has agreed 2 chrome 2 sets of bars and a seatpost in compensation ;) Which I am more than happy with 8) I am still not happy with the state of my frame but at least I will not b out of pocket now ???
Thanks 4 all the supportive comments in my hour of need :daumenhoch: Good buddies 8) 8) 8)
-
guess thats better than a kick in the nads but that poor mrd, think if it were me id still be in a state of shock, guess it kind of compensates,at least its cheered you up a bit steve, its when things like this happen it makes you wonder if its all worth the hassle. :crazy2:
-
I'd want to meet that 'somebody' :knuppel2:
glad you managed to get to a vaguely happy place with this... :daumenhoch:
-
yea, glad you're confident about the repair situation. I wouldn't know what to do-- perhaps take the frame apart, stick something in the dented tubes and widen or somheow 'work it' with the hammer lol. Probably would look worse afterwards ;D
-
Glad you got a deal you're happy with :daumenhoch:
Must be nice to have the skills to save the bills.
Is it just me that can't see the x-rated pics? :D
Somebody help a brother out.
-
Glad you are getting some sort of resolve from the chromers. :'( Good luck with the repairs :daumenhoch:
-
nice one if your happy then its a result :daumenhoch: keep us posted with the repair to the frame :daumenhoch:

i remember seeing a pic of either a National Pro or a Powerlite, can't remember which it was. Are we thinking of the same pic Pete?
-
Was defo a National Pro I remember the thread ;) All the main tubes were eaten away from the inside and looked like swiss cheese >:(
-
Started the long hard haul with this project . Couple of hours of prep work and I'm ready 2 have ago at braizing the seatpost tube back on 2 the bottom bracket ;)
Next job after that is seatpost out ::) Can't do it at the mo cos the frame is 2 flexy >:(
-
..........looking good
.................
-
Right here's how I got on with the braizing ::) Had a few practice runs and decided I was probably going 2 toss it up :LolLolLolLol: so I defered 2 using Tig and phosphur bronze rods ;) think the result is pretty close 2 the original and I'm chuffed 2 bits with the result :smitten:

Now I might be able 2 get the seatpost out with out twisting the frame :-X
While I was at it I filled up the extra holes in the forks some Numptie had drilled 2 fit a MX1000 brake :uglystupid2: Bit of fettling and no body will tell :daumenhoch:

:'( nightmare
-
looking good Steve :daumenhoch:
-
Right I finally got the bloody seatpost out ::) Had 2 sacrifice it tho was jambed in very badly :tickedoff: It was bent and dented which probably aided its refusal 2 budge at all costs . So I cut it off an inch from the top of the seatpost. I then made a saw :LolLolLolLol: (cost my boss a fortune me making tools 2 fix this frame) , 2 cut the post down its length twice, this took hours because didn't want 2 cut into the seatpost tube ::) then a lot of twisting with stilsons and eventually the vice I got the barsteward thing out . Heres the pics of the bits :-\

Still working on the soddin chromers damage pics coming soon :D
-
looks tough work Steve :daumenhoch: i would have gave up and put it at the back of the shed, shows the motivation you have towards these MRD's buddy :daumenhoch: cant wait to see the finished result :smitten:
-
:) Gotta be one of the most epic repair jobs ever :)
-
excellent work shagger
-
nice work :daumenhoch:
-
I have a little bit of fettling 2 do but as good as sorted ;) I now need 2 flat off the whole frame and add a tiny bit more braize or p38 in a few places and also sort the holes on the forks. Then off 2 paint all being well ;)
I have remolded the tubes using some formers I made, then drilled a very small hole on the rear of the dent area that I will seal back up when all done . Then I used a variely of punches I also made 2 work on the dents using half of the formers as a dolly on the back of the tubes. Pretty happy with how much of the dented area came out but needed 2 b mindful that the metal of the tubes has been stretched aswell when flattened out.

I then cleaned all the dented areas ready 2 lay some braize down 2 take up all the imperfections and dents left behind . Came up quite well really but condition of the corroded steel even when cleaned up hampered the process :-\

Then the hard slow process of hand filing etc 2 reshape the tubes . I am so so happy with the results considering what I started with :smitten:

turned out well in the end steve :daumenhoch:
-
Good work mate.
Love looking at this type of stuf :daumenhoch:
-
great job steve :daumenhoch:
instead of using p38 have you ever tried lead filling? its what used to be used on cars before plastic fillers and in my opinion is is far superior as there is no shrinkage. a craftsman of your ability should have no problems with the method.
andy
