I'm currently in the process of building up a chrome Skyway TA which is one bike I have always wanted to own. The framset was NOS before being built up lightly - it has never been ridden! The chrome and decals are all original. It was discovered in a bike shop last year in its original box complete with its Cal Lite framepad where it had been sitting for the last 26 years. I know chrome Skyways are extremely rare in this unused mint condition so my dilema was whether to build this up to ride (it will get trashed if I do ::) ) or build it up and keep it for show only as a perfect pristine original example of one of the most iconic framesets of the 80's :-\
BTW I have already made my mind up which path I am going down but I would be interested to hear everyone elses views :)

If it was me and If it's a NOS TA and not just a chrome one of those nice white '86 ones we've been seeing for the last 9 years, like a really real proper one.
Then i'd either put on the wall or if i could afford it i'd build it up with all NOS parts and then stick it on a carpet.
TA riders are ten a penny...

What you have there is special.
-
ride with pride :daumenhoch:
-
Or, as priv says, you can ride it like every other prîck already has, i doubt it'll ride any better than my (pictured) thrashed one does though.
It's yours so fill ya boots.
-
Carpet queen, shes special.
plenty of TA's around for thrashing ( look at MK07, everybody had them )
-
RIDE IT,RACE IT ! take it to the skate park... use the fooking thing (http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/laie/Laie_22.gif)

i would just put the f&f up on a shelf :smitten:
by the way i will def take her off your hands if you ever decide to part company.................... :-[
-
neither mate, sell it to me PLEASE :LolLolLolLol: nice vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv nice :smitten: id hang it up as is i think :daumenhoch:
-
I'd make it a carpet queen just because of the quality of the Chrome :smitten:

It's a genuine '83 frameset :daumenhoch:
-
Great score Iain :smitten:
Deffo show bike only. You can always get a used TA if you really wanted a rider ;)
-
I'm with Moanjam on this one. Leave it as it is and find a used one to build up and ride. A NOS unbuilt 83 frameset is incredibly rare so I'd leave well alone.
Great find. :daumenhoch:
-
shame to mark it up really.but at the end of the day its yours to do as you please.
i'd have got a rougher one to ride saving that one.
i gotta be honest after trying a T/A few years back after riding new schoolers it was fecking orrible and flexed terrible.
i love em but only to look at nowdays for me.
-
Not to Ride you got a nice Piece of rare bmx history there so make it a carpet Queen :daumenhoch:
-
don't ride it - leave it as art, it looks so fresh and clean
find a frame to ride, cos once that frame has been scratched, dented, scuffed in any way it will loose the magic - get a rider and then you can have both 8)
-
Id get a survivor TA for riding. Thats too nice mate ;)
-
It's unique, once you ride and thrash it it'll be no different from the others. Put it on a shelf and rub your balls on it occasionally.

:daumenhoch: not sure on the balls bit though :-\ :LolLolLolLol:
Get another for riding if that's what you want , but at the end of the day it's yours and you can do as you please ;)
-
Stick it on yer mantelpiece as is.
look ace, sure the missus would agree!
-
carpet queen :smitten: put it on the mantle piece :daumenhoch:
-
If it was mine I wouldn't build it at all, I'd just display it :smitten:
-
if you want to ride get a bmx
-
This might sound harsh, but you have a responsibility owning that to ensure it stays in the condition it was found and to even consider riding (trashing) it is a disgrace.
Survivor TA's are 10 a penny, ive bought and sold 3 already this year. There arent many of these around in this condition, and to ride it for the sake of it is a piss take quite frankly. If you arent arsed about keeping it NOS, sell it to someone who will look after it and buy a rider.
I know people will say 'its only a BMX', but its not anymore, its a valuable collectors item. You will achieve nothing riding this apart from my complete disdain.
Ah fook it, I tried. Do what you like. Its your bike after all. Ride it, crash it, trash it, bin it. :P
-
Cut it in half, fix the front end to the inside of the bog wall, and use an old front wheel hub to hold your loo roll... nice :daumenhoch:
Throw the rest in the front street, Skyways are 10 a penny and a bit council house.
or you could just put it on the wall as it's rare as fook in that condition :)
-
Thanks for all the helpfull comments :LolLolLolLol:
I'm gonna come clean. I had decided to build it up as a rider :-[
HOWEVER!!!
After reading all the different views and opinions I have now had second thoughts and have decided to preserve it as it is. It will now be kept for display only :daumenhoch:
It's not as if I need to ride it anyway as I have plenty of other bikes to do that on ::)
Thanks guys ;)
-
Definitely wouldn't ride that - can't be many knocking round in that condition - plenty of other "rideable" ones out there..........
-
I think that's worthy of having a case made for it like the one PKRadkeeks had done for his Ripper, keep the OG box too, maybe use that as the back drop :daumenhoch:
-
if you decide to keep it as is instead of riding it, then keep it in its box as that will add to the value in the end :daumenhoch:
-
definately a show pony! or i'd even maybe leave it as an unbuilt f & f and put it on the wall in ya front room ;D
great find geezer :daumenhoch:

Funnily enough I was thinking that myself before I even read this :LolLolLolLol:
I have a pal who runs a specialised plastics moulding company. Might see if he can knock something up :daumenhoch:
The original box was binned (not by me I hasten to add!) as it was badly damaged by the damp and mice :'(
-
I think you should go with Ron Burgundy's idea and the groovy bog roll holder :coolsmiley:
WINNER :daumenhoch:
Lovely T/A Iain

Here here - well put Danny. Keep as a Carpet Queen...!
