Title: Hub help
Post by: Gary72 on May 14, 2010, 08:23 PM
I've just stripped a free agent rear cassette hub. It's loose ball on the drive side and has a sealed bearing on the other side. Only problem is the axle is like a pr1ck in a bucket in the sealed bearing. It was all quite tight when I stripped it. So I just undid everything. It has cone nuts on both sides. But I cant see how it will work when I put it back together. Anyone have a similar set-up?
I think that on the sealed bearing side it should have a top hat washer to stop the axle floating around.

:) Sounds just like the older Redline cassette hubs which did have a tophat washer. The washers were crappy alloy and were prone to exploding now & then! All was well until you noticed your rear wheel was feeling odd and making strange noises :daumenhoch:

I looked up the bearing number and it says it's a 10mm bore, But the axle is sloppy, Will try my LBS and his box of bits.
