Title: Do new skool bits go on mid skool frames?
Post by: losidan on May 19, 2010, 07:22 PM
silly question i suppose but thought i'd check. Got an 92ish mongoose hooligan to clean and build, mainly for my little niece to use when she comes to ours. I have plenty of the original bits but wanted to get down with the kids and throw some new skool stuff on it too...mainly cranks...

So, do I need a specific size for the mid skool stuff.

you can run most parts just be carefull going very low on the gearing as you might have chain hitting the chainstay.

Spindles are generally 14mm not 10mm, may not fit the dropouts.

True. Some 14mm slotted axles will fit though. Things like seat tube diameter vary between eras and makers.

or if you don't want to go cassette on the rear, Cyclesport (BMX City) do 10mm sealed hubs  :daumenhoch:
