can any body direct me into;-
1. removing the free wheel, as it is stuck on and i do not have the tool (should i purchase !)?
2. remove the alloy star.
3. refitting the alloy star.
4. any kits, equipment and tools i will require.

te rivets cannot be replicated, you wil have to build them with bolts.... :)

Without a Freewheel romoving tool you have to disassemble the Freewheel by unscreing the end plate, removing the cog plus bearings, springs etc and then with a pair of Stilsons get the remaining treaded band off.
The only way to get the Hub off is to drill the rivet heads off and rebuild using the correct size bolts and nylock nuts.
I spent many a day converting fronts to rears in the late nineties as a shop in Nottingham had about 50 NOS Black front tuffs from the old Raleigh factory but no rears.

Had a similar problem myself.
Went to the local bike shop to buy a freewheel removal tool but they didn't have one to fit. They said as long as I didn't need the freewheel (it was knackered anyway and I wanted to replace it) to stick it in a vice, and unscrew it that way.
So I carefully put the thing in a vice, slowly increasing the pressure just enough to stop the freewheel turning but not so much that it crushed the hub and hey presto I got the freewheel off no probs.
Might be easier than replacing a hub ?

I've taken off many a freewheel with the old big screw driver and mallett. Just be careful not to slip and impale your leg ;D

better use a chisel and lump hammer, works everytime for me...
