Anyone know how to strip chrome or nickel plate from a frame ? I know I could just hand it over to the chromers, but I don't want it rechroming again, plus they take for ever to do anything. Just spoke with a media blasters, and they say no way will it touch chrome, which explains why my little home blast cabinet just laughs at it too >:(
I know caustic soda takes care of anno, but does it work with other finishes ?
Help please ?
Cheers

Its a bitch to get off.
I have got it off some cranks before with glass paper, but it took forever, the best way is to let the chromerist do it, the bloke up this way does a frame, fork and bars for a tenner.

It is a real pain...
You really need a full workshop with solutions / baths to get rid of it in all the nooks and crannies, it is a real pain if you are after a proper job.
Easiest to leave it to the pro's with the right equipment.
As a guide, I was quoted £30 for F&F and bars recentley (Hertfordshire).

orb wheres up your way?
handing over a tenner sounds way more fun than standing at my work bench rubbing away.

can he put the chrome back-on again? i've got a couple of frames i'd like refinishing, both currently chrome. I want one re-chroming, and one painting..... oh, and what's the going rate for chroming/painting :)?

if your going to paint frame then just sand frame up for a key for paint .most paint will stick to a frame that has been sanded well . i`m afraid if want rechromed then it back to the chromer`s as they have to dip frame to get chrome off
